I have a rock I took out of my big tank several months ago when I had gha, the rock still has some dried up gha on it. If I scrub it all off would it be ok to put it in my pico tank or would I need to worry about the gha coming back to life?

Interesting. Thank you, if I go with flexible what's the difference between it and PVC? I had someone tell me PVC is quieter. Which quiet is very nice, should I even try to get a silent sump not even silent just quiet. And is plumbing parts different? Unions etc.

Plumbing is easier. No unions, you just route it where you need it to go. No 90s, just gentle bends with the pipe itself. No unions, no glue, no threads, just tubing slipped over barbed fittings with clamps on any barbed fittings outside of the sump. I don't even use a hose clamp on the tubing where it attaches to my return pump.

As far as louder, I'm not sure why it would be louder. In fact, less fittings and more gentle bends would potentially make tubing quieter.

Great. My dad has experience with hose clamps from lawn mower repair as do I. Would you say there's a disidvantage to them? Where would I buy one good enough for this.. I feel like flexible tubing is smaller then PVC. Less heavy though.

I get mine at Ace Hardware or Home Depot/Lowe's. Usually you can buy it by the foot so you don't have to buy a 10' or 20' roll of it if you only need 3'.

I swapped to flexible when I put the new pump on my system. It was just enough different that the old pvc wouldn't match up

Been only using flexible for 20 years.
No glue, can move stuff anywhere and when the inside gets crappy you can just take it out.

Lol every tank has more algae than mine at the moment, so 100%.
Man Paul, you'd love her little 20 gallon. It's twice as old as mine, and is a native Gulf thinstripe hermit tank. She doesn't have corals and has her tank so dialed in that she can control her algae with her light settings. She keeps a short little algae on some of her rocks for the crabs and urchins.
