Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I plan on growing some of mine out as well but I have eggs from BRS. When they run out I plan on ordering some from aquarium coop because I have read they have a really high hatch rate.
I am looking for the video I watched one time about this

This is not the vid I was looking for, but check it out. He feeds the adults (brine shrimp) basically flake fish food. its a laundry basket he keeps outside. I am not doing the outside thing. but it looks easy.

My research says, once you have a colony going, the adults hatch live, not eggs, so basically maintaining the colony is what you have to do. So there may be no need for constantly hatching the eggs. I basic egg supply should last a long time
Yes that is what I have also seen in my research. I have a small 5 gallon tank that I plan on growing them out in.

I would not want to do it outside either as I think it would attract too many mosquitoes.

exactly, but his method can be used indoors, interesting on what he feeds them. I may go there, but i am using the same size container i use for copepods (1 gallon) going to see if I can get it going and if needed can easily restart. Its not going to be a primary food, just a supplementary

now that you said that, i was at Petco today, since i was in town (Columbus) picking up some potting soil. I stopped by to see if they had any porcelain crabs. But i did look to see what they were selling 5 gal, tanks for. They had a rimless 5 gal selling for $60. I almost laughed out loud. The curly haired guy that has some saltwater knowledge was there and seen me checking out their coral. I asked him again if they wanted to buy my phyto for $20 a half gallon. He said no, they throw out what they stock now after 5 days.

I would like to feed them at least once a week to all 8 of my tanks

I am out of my 45 year old brine shrimp eggs, and yes they still hatched. So I have decided to buy these and will be raising them to adult. Feeding phyto and spirulina powder. Adding this to my fishes menu, I don't expect a tip, but sure they will be happy

That's way too much for a 5 gallon! But some people will pay that for them. 😆

Amanda I could be completely wrong here, but I would think that if you were spot feeding the new fish, you would want to give it something that you would eventually hope for it to eat, like frozen or pellets. Spot feeding copepods seems counter productive to me. This is a food that you WANT the fish to hunt and graze on. If you're blasting pods at it, they're going to swim away and he'll just eat them later.

I'm just thinking this out with you, not trying to say you're wrong.

Since you don't expect a tip from your fish, here's a valuable tip from me; do not eat yellow snow.
I play that song at least twice a month on this thread in the winter.

Holy moly, wife asked why I am not drinking scotch. I said well, had a few beers. she said pop the top on this 1/2 gallon, wife loves me so much, she helping me die early

You and Amanda are both doing this! That's awesome. I'd like to try it but will let you experiment first Jimmy
The brine shrimp hatchery has been a hoot! My poor fish are like, "really? Brine shrimp again"? They go from eggs to a first harvest in as little as 8 hours.

Yes after I thought about it I realized it would be better just to let her find them so I'm going to put a gallon in the sump and a gallon in the tank.

My new one worked really really well but before I could harvest them my son accidentally knocked it over and spilled almost the entire culture. The container is great but the stand is a wobbly piece of junk. Maybe one of you guys that 3D print could make me something better and I could pay you for it?
