I have an IM 50 EXT that has too many dead spots that I want to try to remedy. I already have one MP10 and it normally runs at 70%-80%. With the current sale, I am looking at getting either a 2nd MP10 or a single MP40. I have a large anemone on the right side of the tank and will need to get a nem protector for it and I am concerned about it even with the nem protector. Do you think it would be best to have a single mp40 with a wider flow or two MP10s across from each other and running at say 50% each?

I always favor having more wave makers (even less powerful ones) than fewer, more powerful ones. That gives you options to create dynamic, random flow, eliminate dead spots, as well as increased redundancy in the event of an equipment failure.

I’d go with 2 rather than 1.

2 mp10s gets my vote as well

Redundancy is something I never thought about for this. Would you go with a mp10 and mp40 with the 40 set at a lower precentage? My only thought for the mp10 and mp40 is if I upgrade in the future, but as I type this I am thinking that won't happen for a few years and at that point maybe there will be better options.

I have an MP10 that I bought for my IM 40 and when I upsized to a Red Sea 350 I had to put it away because it didn’t have the magnet strength for the thicker glass. MP10 are great for nanos and practically unusable on thicker glass tanks.

If there’s even a possibility of you upsizing, I’d go with the MP40.
I actually just ordered one today on early Black Friday sale

2 MP10s will be killer on that size tank. I ran 2 of them on multiple 40Bs and my 50 cube over the years

This thread just cost me $375 on aquacave for another MP40... Had no idea there was a sale going and would have missed it if not for you!

That depends upon your system and your needs. As you know, DC pumps give you the ability to reduce or increase your flow, which gives you more options. That being said, if your aquarium is small you won't have much need for that much water flow from a single unit. The 10s would suffice.

If the 40s aren't too powerful for your aquarium and you're thinking you might upgrade in the near future, and money isn't a concern here, then sure, I'd go with the 40s rather than the 10s. But again, it depends upon your unique situation.
