what would be a good filter for a 10 gallon reed tank I was thinking an internal filter with a spray bar but I'm worried about bubbles since that's what my last one is doing thoughts?

Just a simple hang on back filter would suffice

the old aqua clear style that fluval took over work really well and are very easy to maintain. they have a sponge for mechanical filtration that you can pull out, rinse clean and put back in. that or a little hob skimmer.

I used an AC70 for my 10 gallon when it was running and it worked really well. Plus theres some good extras for it out there like a skimmer box and an acrylic media basket from the intank company.

I very much prefer the Hagen/Fluval AquaClear HOB's, I like them more than even the SeaChem tidal. They're reliable, and there's a lot of aftermarket media baskets that can make them even more efficient for a reef tank.

I like the Seachem Tidal because it has some surface skimming.
Surface skimmers are available for the Aquaclear filters too:

so a HOB would be best rn I have an old canaster I used for my 20 hooked up but its putting out so much bubbles I can barely see in the tank and that's with the flow set to the lowest

it sounds to me like there may be air trapped in the canister filter if your getting bubbles. Might want to look up how to purge the filter for that particular model. Hopefully that clears up your bubble issue

Thanks, guys. It's an older filter, so I'm just going to replace it (it's my backup filter for my other tank; I'm going to get a HOB since its a smaller tank and it'll be easier). I'll definitely purge it for next time I use it so it's not a 60 buck bubbler lol. Thank you, guys!

This right here. I'm running a Fluval 30 on my 10 gallon with a similar surface skimmer and an inTank media basket. I typically just use filter floss and bioballs in the filter basket, but have occasionally used chemi-pure or other filter media as needed temporarily. The tank's been up and running for over 3 years now with that same filter setup, including a tank/house move.
