So I guess this is my official build thread. I think I’ve maybe posted or replied on reef2reef once or twice. I started keeping fish sometime in 2008, freshwater South American cichlids at first. Then African cichlids casually breeding them occasionally. In 2012 I decided it was time to take the plunge into salt water so I started off with a 20 gallon long. I did everything wrong including thinking that green hair algae looked cool because coming from freshwater it looked pretty sweet. I jumped up to a 72 gallon bowfront fowler system , some angels, a few triggers, and some other random fish. I shut that system down about 8 months later and took 6-8 months off. Then I started up a 40 gallon breeder and again did most of it wrong, learned a lot of lessons on the way. I had that tank up and running for four years had a nice little reef going, mostly LPS and softies. The end of last year I saw a pretty sweet deal on craigslist. A one hundred gallon tank complete set up with lights skimmer everything for $450 so I jumped on it. This one certainly has been a voyage especially because I have five small children and not a lot of time to dedicate to it. Any rate the system I have now I’m finally getting it stable. I battled Dino’s for months and now I have a good bit of Cyano. I started out with dry rock and sand and used Dr. Tim’s one and only. I had so many pests in my 40 gallon breeder that I was fighting constantly I wanted to try to avoid that on this system. My current livestock consists of two Ocellaris clowns one I think is a mocha misbar and the other is a Wyoming white. I have a blue throat trigger, a diamond goby, a rabbit fish and four Wrasses. It still is very much a build in progress I don’t have much in my sump and I am trying to figure out designs and ideas for running it more effectively. I just bought my first coral for this system the other day, a small Duncan frag with about five or six heads.

Loved that hogfish... I watched him for a few months at the LFS... he had one eye... after a few months no one bought him and I figured if he could live that long he would be fine. I had to give him up after a year or two because I needed to get some peppermint shrimp But I love wrasses/hogfish/parrotfish
