The amazing thing is that the article was written in 2007, and the fish was only being fed once per day. Now that there are captive mandarins that are raised on dry food, it should be much easier. I have a litany of foods as well as a brine shrimp hatchery for mine (when it arrives). Biota recommended 3-4 feedings per day with their fish.

I just found a post on ReefCentral about Catalina Gobies collected from Mexico and Nicaragua that live in higher temp waters, and one reefer who was keeping them in a tank that was between 70-77 degrees. Unfortunately there was no follow-up post to report how long they lived....
