Having been in the hobby for 55 years now I have learned that buying good equipment saves me money and worry. The hobby is not something I am trying out it is has been a life long hobby so I invest in good quality equipment. When ever you use cheap equipment it just ends up costing me animals and money.

Correct. That lesson we all learn pretty quickly.
Nowadays, with so many suppliers and equipment on the marker, it is not always easy to find a good balance between price and quality.
Now by mentioning Tunze, you took my focus away from Rossmont ;Bookworm;Bookworm;Bookworm
I will have to check with Santa to see what he can do...

I believe @TheEngineer has a video or something about replacing the bearings in them... just a thought.
I was not successful replacing the dry side bearings. I did identify the parts needed so if you’ve got a bearing puller you can give it a shot. :)

The tricky part is to get the bearings off without breaking anything.
I will give it a try when I am in full zen mode.

Yep. The bearings are actually held inside a brittle magnetic sleeve.

I love your website.
The recipe part is tempting.
That's very kind of you. :) It is unfortunately very out of date. I stink at keeping up with it. Maybe I'll do some work on it today. Thanks for the reminder!

Long and many hour work week again.
Came home yesterday late at night while the tank lights were running their last 10 minutes and noticed the purple cardus was STN'ing.
Not much I could do so the branches that were not affected yet were cut and put on some frag stones. I hope at least one of the 3 will survive.

The rest of the coral looks ok so I think that the dead MP40 (which was pushing water over the cardus) created a lack of flow.
Not sure what else can be the trigger.

Some quick mobile shots

MO FTS yet as the tank is not doing so well.
I have various frags loosing tissue and other loosing colour.
All parameter seem to be fine and within range.
So I suspect not enough trace elements.

Increased the dosing for the Coral Essentials to 8ml per day (previous 4ml).
This weekend is also water change day.
Hoping I can turn the tide soon or not too much will be left.

Sorry to hear. Really Sorry.

It could be just shock, and after effect and not current level of Trace Elements, which may be fine.
Can't you try and first restore Trace Element Balance with a Good Large Water change?
Then use Coral Essentials to keep it up/stable (using just the Recommended amount/perGallon)

Hi Janci

But how do you know you need to add more trace elements, have you tested for them as yet and you know what they say, don’t add it unless you test for it (or something like that!) ?

If something isn’t write and you don’t have positive test results to show you what the problem is, maybe do some water changes and get some new water in there ?

I hope it all works out.

I have been doing weekly water changes of about 15% which should have helped in the meantime.
This week I will do another one.
Concerning the CE dosing, I have been adding less than the minimum to start with and now bumped it a little more. Considering the quantity of corals in the tank, a bigger dose might be recommended.
After the water change I will send another ICP test to be able to compare with the previous results which were taken right before starting the CE dosing.
It will be interesting to see the results.

Water change done.
I put a new bulb in the T5's. Thinking that I was running the ATI Coral+, but a couple of days ago I found out that the bulb I was using was a Pacific Sun Spectra+ bulb, that was previously put in an ATI Coral+ box... yeap, guilty.
So I changed that bulb for a Pacific Sun Crystal Blue+. The idea was always to get a ATI Blue+, but they are not available in UAE for the moment so this Pacific Sun will do for now.

New Co2 bottle connected to the CaRx.
Filter socks replaced and washed

Also the BTA split for the 3rd time so I took out 2 pieces that will go to a fellow reefer for free.
