I have been wanting to switch to 7” filter cups on my Advanced Acrylics sump, however it uses six 7” filter socks. So the cost would have been on the high side.

Also the outer four sock holes are positioned under the lip of the sump, so installing a deep cup wouldn’t work.

So I decided to print up some shallow baskets that can hold a piece of filter floss. It should be very easy to pull the basket & dump the floss in the garbage and replace it.

Here are some pics.

These work great so far. I have only printed the one and its in my sump. I need to print the rest of them and see how quickly the floss gets clogged up. I'll actually put one on the printer now! Unfortunately they take 8hours to print.

I printed it in ABS. I guess PLA is a biodegradable, so it might soften up. I wonder what the return nozzles are printed from?

I know this is an old thread but my buddy recently got a 3D printer and I asked him to print me some 7” filter cups but he’s not good at designing… lol anyway you can make those longer to fit more floss in there and share the file?
