40 breeder build

looking good man! I used a rubber mat that goes into a shower so you wont slip. It was perfect size, you might need 2 of them and just cut one to shape. It will help, with any vibrations. Is the mag 7 new?

Brand new just got it at that brs group buy a couple of weeks ago got the rock then too. It was a great deal the were selling the rock for 1.50 / lb I also got a brs carbon/ gfo reactor haven't got to hooking that or the apex up yet ..... Baby steps

Brs reactor and apex configured for onsite and off site access hopefully tonight I can get the LEDs done I'm going to have 2 strings of blues any easy way to wire them to the apex vdm so the are on the same dimmer channel?

Trace down the wires from the VDM module and you will see the way to do it as easy as it gets, Hope this helps or you can talk to Rick as he is the expert (mixer911)

Thanks for the advice , the picture is worth a thousand works went to radio shack picked up a junction and some fuses , i noticed them in the build

LEDs mounted to heatsink and wired together test all 3 strings with 9v battery to the mean well so far so good.all 3 strings are looking good waiting till tonight to finish the hard stuff hers a pic of one blue and the white string. ...... Finally progress !!!!!

Been a bad night....... Got everything all wired up put the multimeter in line and ..... Got a bad mean well pushing 1.8 amps needless to say I shut it off immediately fired an email to rapid led and calling it a night. I had a bad feeling about that driver when I opened it up and the svr2 was kinda funky it was plastic so I was very gentle but still it wouldn't stop spinning. I well I still have 2 more drivers worse comes to worse I can always wore the blues in parrell right?

Did this really early this am be honest !!!!

Mike , thank you so much looks good so far ! One problem on my buil I have a good amount of spot lighting... I'm hoping I can just snap the optics back off I used thermal epoxy otherwise I'm going to have come up with a way to mount it higher

Just curious as to why you have all teh LEDs in the center of the fixture? With all the LEDs so close together is why your getting spotlighting. What degree optics are you using?

yea thats why i was asking how high it is above his water .. since with using those heatsinks like that u basically create a giant flashlight and they need to be hung like 2ft above ur tank

I didn't even think about that when readi g the forums bc most were using the u channel with alot of spacing. Right now it's siting on the top of the take with 80 degree optics... I'm going to have to hang it, ideally don't want to try and remove the optics bc I'm scared of damaging LEDs.

Exactly what I was thinking also.

Yea, with heatsinks they limit you to that surface to mount them. With the size you used your LEDs are tighter causing the spotlight effect. You will have to raise it up higher.
