That overflow cover is awesome. How are you getting it to sit above the lip still allowing the water to flow into the box?

Looks great, I'll have to look up the sump style, but could you give the short version of why the return is in the middle of the sump? I've traditionally always seen PS, then fug, then return.
I did this style so I could control the flow going through the fuge area by t'ing off of the return.

I added legs to it with enough length to support above the overflow. Thanks for the comments.

looking good brother! nice skimmer

when you get some extra cash swap out the Mag for a Eheim 1260 (think someone on here is selling a used 1262) -then your setup will be dead quiet. overflow will quiet down some more once things slime up in the pipes.

Awesome, thanks for posting that. Pictures speak a thousand words.
No problem, I would rather see pics as well.

Yeah, that is the pump that I will be getting, kinda a pricey. Skimmer is great, nice and quiet. I have one question about the air valve for break in. Which is max, clockwise or counter clockwise? How's your's working for you?

mine is still in the box  - tank is STILL being built and stand is not done. Christmas robbed me of my reef funds so i should be back on track mid January. Send Luke an email about the skimmer - I certainly am no specialist -sorry :(.

THe used eheim i think is 75 bones so you may wanna jump on it (almost a $200 pump) - check the hardware classifieds.

Ok, it's update time. The cycle is still coming along ammonia is around .25. I got some sand from a fellow reefer to help with the cycle. I did find some type of small worm and I'm getting some white snot looking material on the rock. Any ideas what it might be?

I also finished my DIY light fixture. I made it out of 1x2 and a T5 retro kit. The kit was originally 48" reflectors, but I cut them down. The kit didn't come with standoffs so I improvised as seen in the pics.

Acrylic cover to prevent salt on bulbs and reflectors. You can see how I did it.

Cooling fan for lights. I read on another forum that cooling the ends will prolong the life of the bulbs and I had extra fans. I hope to get a full year, so I get some LED's going.

The snot is coming from a vermetid snail, they are harmless but do put out the snot constantly. They attach to the rock and stay put and let the snot out to catch particles in the water. I can't stand looking at it so I take my frag shears and cut them up for fish food.

The light looks good, it is true that the fans will help out with the bulbs too.

Skinz78 thanks. Do you think vermetid's would be around this early in the cycle? I've had them on my other tank and I don't see their tubes at all. Do you think it is some type of algae growing?

Two weeks. I did get some sand from a fellow reefer to help seed the tank but it was really clean sand. I did find a small translucent red worm yesterday. I appreciate your help.

Update

The white stringy stuff seems to be decreasing, plus I have been sucking it out. I did a little more work on the lights by adding some moonlights that were given to me because they didn't work. I had to do a little corrosion cleaning and there all good. I read mojo's skimmer review and decided to raise the skimmer to 7-8" depth and it's working great now, actually pulling some gunk. I made a stand out some scrap acrylic I had. I picked up some chaeto and another rock to help seed the tank. My heater also burned up this morning when I was looking at forums today. I smelt something and heard my pump turn off/on, so killed the power and found it was the heater burning up. I'm glad it happened when I was sitting here and also that the tank doesn't have any livestock. Time for new titanium heater, thinking ViaAqua. I see a Ranco in the future when $ allows. Enough talk here's some more pics.

working moonlights. I hope there not to far forward and back but I didn't want to block the T5 bulbs.

Update, the white stringy stuff has disappeared. I added some more seed rock and now have pods crawling on the rocks. I also found what I believe is a Chiton, someone please confirm this. Here's a few pics.
