40Br ready for water

Yeah I'm planning on building the canopy just haven't had a chance to build it yet.

Not quite sure. Is this the correct way to calculate.
Mag 7 return pump= 600gph w/ head loss
skimmer = 150gph
evo750 =750gph
total = 1500gph
Estimate 50gal total volume gives me about 30x turnover.

Does that sound right?

I think you are close but I wouldn't include the skimmer because it isn't physically in the tank adding to the flow in there.

Well, I finally had a chance to work on the canopy tonight. I made the frame out 1x2's and it will be skinned with 1/2" birch. I finally got to use my pocket hole jig and I must say it is a great tool. Besides my table saw and router this might be the best addition to my wood working tools. I plan on making the top open (Lights will be attached to it) and making a either single long door or two smaller ones on the front. I was thinking about using drawer slides and have the doors slide open as opposed to the standard cabinet door. Has anyone done this or have a link to a canopy done this way. Again, I would appreciate any input before I get to far into the project. Here's a couple pics.

Nice, that tool will really come in handy for a project like this. Looks great so far, I wanna see the finished product :)

I had to add a safety provision to the top for the overflow as my clown keeps sump diving. I thought the 1/4" gap was going to be sufficient, wrong. I added some knitting plastic to prevent this.

Nice thinking. I use gutter guard on all my drains now, and I haven't had a swimmer in the sump since.

I got some work done on the canopy today. I need to get a piano hinge and stain it. I will mount the light after I finish painting the inside and staining it. Here some pics.

Thanks skinz78. I'm going to stain it a dark cherry and the trim will be clear polyurethane. I may cut doors in the front as it may become a pain having to lift every time I feed and being blinded by the lights.

Update time. I still haven't finished my canopy but I hope to get the inside painted and outside stained this weekend, if I don't have to work. I did get a chance to finish my frag rack that I started last summer. I used an idea that I seen in Reef Hobbyist mag, using acrylic rod. I'm still moving corals over slowly. Here's some pics of rack and current tank condition.

that is a slick little build you did there. crazy looking frag plugs...gave me an idea though for mine.

Thanks all for the compliments. I've been slowing moving corals from my nanocube with PC lighting to this tank with T5 lighting. It's amazing how some corals have changed color after getting better light. Here's a toadstool that I thought was purple and now has changed to light green. Here's pics showing this change.

Update

It's been awhile since I've updated on my tanks progress. I still haven't completed the canopy yet, but I did get some drawer slides for the front doors. I've transferred some more corals from my other tank and added a few Chromis and a Firefish. Anyway enough talk here's some pics. I'm still working on my camera skills so if you have any input please give me feedback. I'm shooting in manual mode only to learn the functions.

Thanks, Skinz. Yes that is Duncan on the right, a friend gave it to me as he was going all SPS.
