450g Starphire Display

Cool thread I have 450 also so this should be intersting to see how it turns out when it's done. The tank is already starting to look better. Keep up the hard work, will pay off in the end.

Have you considered venting at all? I have a 450g also, basement in-wall, and needed a whole house dehumidifier!! If I had been closer to an outside wall, I would've isolated the room with vapor barrier and vented outside with air-air exchange! This beast (along with sump) will prob evap 5+ gallons per day!!

The room is exhausted through the roof. I was lucky enough to already have a vent in place outta the garage. All I had to do was add a fan!

Very nice! I like the rock wall, could you tell us more about it? How are you going to rockscape the tank with the wall.. make it more of a minimal foreground?

Really coming together nicely and I love the Marco rock. I am definitley going to be using it on my next build. Great "frag pack" you got there as well. I can't wait to see a FT of this beast.

Sweet looking tank CCombs and really coming along nicely. I cant believe the amount of work to clean up that tank with the rock wall and silicon. How long did it take you?

Wholly !!@%, that's a beast! Can't wait to see it all up and running. Are you going to plumb the tanks together?

CJ

Nice, what a beast of a tank. I want a longer tank so bad to give the fish so much more room to swim. I had a 8ft long tank at one time, but I never set it up. Good luck with the build :)

I actually took the rockwork off. It was basically foam sprayed over eggcrate then siliconed to the glass. All the rock as put into the tank before the wall was built. I got in with the rock and put it where I wanted.

I'll try to get one up soon. All I can do now is wait for everything to grow!

Too many hours lol. It wasn't too bad though with a little music :)

Yeah all the tanks are plumbed together. The fuge, softie, skimmer, and reactor are all fed off the overflows. Saves me a lot on the electricity bill and keeps extra heat outta the water!

How many people did it take to carry that thing?

With 6 people it wasn't bad at all.

What a sweet tank! Can't wait to see more pics with all those corals you got:bigsmile:

How many tanks are you going to plumb together, and was it the electricity cost that was the deciding factor for plumbing it all together?

Roger that on the costs. I assume you plan to run plenty of carbon since you have a softy tank and an SPS tank plumbed together?

Yes, plumbing them together was partly to save energy costs. I also keep the water matching in all the tanks. I'm always able to move stuff around without any problems. The bubble king really is an amazing skimmer. I tried it out on my 210 which already had a good skimmer on it... within 2 days it had the 18" collection cup filled with almost 4 inches of skimmate. The way everything is set up now, one skimmer cleans the whole system. Everything tank on the list is plumbed together. I have a 40b frag tank going on the system soon and a 110g water change system.

It's no different than having a mixed reef. I do run carbon but wouldn't have to. I like having the softie tank for feeding purposes. I am able to close the tank off and target feed the dendro and other coral. The flow isn't anywhere close to the big tank. Which at it's highest is close to 57x turnover. 26,000 gph

Love the pic progression! Looks like you put alot of work in to restoring the tank. Hope you got a good deal! ;) What an addition list! Soooo, assuming an SPS build. hahaha.
