I think I'm going to try jumpstarting my coraline algae. Has any tried this product: CORALLINE ALGAE IN A BOTTLE, PINK?

from https://arcreef.com/product/coralline-algae-in-a-bottle/

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I posted this on July 12th and added the coralline about a week later. Last week I began to see the pink on my rocks. It has continued to spread. I would have to say the product works as advertised. I'll try to get a pic or two today.

I have not started 3 part dosing yet because I have not added corals but with the emergence of coralline algae my alk dropped this week. (7.5 I only had time for one test yesterday and I am a little dubious of the number. I'll retest today and send off a 2nd ICP sample to Triton) Ca at 495 and Mg at 1420. I'll start dosing today. I splurged on a Neptune DOS pump and absolutely love it! What great control and accuracy. I'm using one side for ATO and not sure if I'll use the other for alk or ca.

Two questions:

1. what is that brown stuff on the top unit? Rust? Any concerns about it contaminating the water?

2. what is the red tubing? Waste line? If so, why the sediment filter canister afterward?

Never mind Question 2 - I see that it is a supply line now.

Yes, the tubing is not color coded by task. It is just what I had.

The brown stuff is rust. It cannot contaminate the water but it is certainly aesthetically unpleasing. I've had this unit for so long (close to 15 years) that I didn't notice the rust until I took the pic! When I restarted this tank I had repainted the frame but I fear it is pretty much shot. I'll have to bite the bullet and replace it at some point. :(

Incredible tank! I've had really good luck with fish from The Reef Rack, but I QT everything, even CUC. They get some really good looking stock in

I just found them last week and left having spent more than I planned! I also visit Aquarium Wholesale having known Patrick for 20 years. I used to buy from him out of his house in KC way back when.

I'll be sure to indicate old pics on my posts so you can skip by them!

Looking forward to seeing your build come together. That Marco rock will look great when you’re done. I used the caribsea arch rock as well as the life rock in mine.
