Hi fellow reefers!
After crashing my tank due to neglect while undergoing a kitchen remodel, I've started up again. Water changes, scraping algae, removing dead stuff...you know the drill. Happily, a few tank mates made it through the 3 month ordeal; including my squamosa clam, a few fish and a bubble tip anenome.
For this build, I'm considering a more natural means of nitrate removal. I've read about algae scrubbers and am wondering if anyone has used live, freshly cultured phytoplankton (like Nannochloropsis aka "Nanno") instead of the typical hair algae varieties? The theory is dosing the tank consistently with Nanno, allowing it to consume posphates and nitrates, then any Nanno that's left over becomes coral and pod food. Your thoughts???
