The Club-Zoa Spotlight took a break while you guys posted some great pics in the photo contest. Congratulations again to BeakerBob. So we are back and I wanted to thank Vince (kigs) :hello2: for requesting this spotlight.
PPRPE
- This Zoanthus gigantus looks like the PPEs elaborate cousin. The core factors to make it a PPE are all there; the Green Skirt, the PE (green mouth), and the purple oral disc. But what makes this particular morph different are the white touches in it. What stands out is the turquoise border that surrounds the oral disk, but if you look closely this band isn't a full circle. Instead, there are breaks in it where the PE mouth is the widest. Another difference you may notice are the turquoise speckles on the oral disc.
*** I don't have these zoas so it will be up to the CZ community to give us the best lighting, flow, feed or not, or any other info for this color strain.***
Lighting:
- This Zoanthus gigantus enjoys higher par lighting and will show better coloration as well. Lower light and new polyps may be missing the white ring with a look similar to a PPE.
Flow:
- Medium flow with a chaotic pattern preferred. Medium flow is enough to shake the skirts but not enough force the polyp to close. Trial and error may be needed, but it is always safer to start with a lower flow and add more.
Feeding:
- Not necessary, but some keepers have noticed a reaction to food.
Origins:
- The Caribbeans
Growth Rate:
-
Rarity:
- Not very easy to find, and may fetch for a decent price.
ID Confusions:
- May be confused with PPE, especially when PPEs are exposed to a lot of light and develop white speckles. In general this strain is rather unique with the closest color pattern being The Grimace .
Other info:
- This morph was originally named by The Propagator. :hello2:
