I think it was from a Buckeye Hydro posting...remove all filters and membrane, fill each vertical container with 2 cups tap water+1 or 2 tablespoons bleach, close system and slowly fill with tap water so that all hoses and tubes completely fill, shut off and wait 30 min, flush thoroughly.

I may have missed a step...I'd try to find their posting for the full instructions. :)

P.S. Restarted water production. Yay!

I am thinking about doing this on a 2 gallon per day basis. Thoughts?

I have a 34 gallon tank currently.

I haven't read the whole thread but do you have a pic of your water mixing/changing station? What post number or page is it?

I don't have a dedicated area for mixing salt. I have 5 five gallon containers that I fill probably twice a week that hold my fresh water and I just transfer one of the containers into a five gallon bucket to mix salt. My salt mixes for two hours at most. I cannot remember if Matt has a dedicated area or not.

I don't see why it wouldn't hurt.

What is your water change schedule now? Parameters?

I do a 10 gallon change every 1 to 2 weeks.

Don't know the Parameters right now will test tonight.

Personally I think you'd see dividends doing two gallon water changes daily as opposed to the weekly/bi - weekly that you're doing now. I have maybe ten actual "working minutes" per water change.

Water change #52!

Would've done a larger water change just cuz I had the time, but I didn't have enough water for more than 5 gallons plus a fill up for the ATO yet.

-Matt

P.S. I now have pressure gauges mounted permanently on my RODI system at the input to the sediment filter and input to the membrane housing so I can keep better tabs - or have any idea what's going on at all, really - regarding pre-filter performance. Combined with in-line TDS monitoring at the input and output of my DI stage, I'm fairly happy with my RODI monitoring situation now. Handheld TDS monitor is really all I'd like to add.

I am still in the game and am on 5 gal. change # 70 since October 5th. Water parameters are staying farely consistant with only adding kalk to ATO.

I have removed all carbon, which is a major change for me as I have used it consistantly for the past 20 years.

I am starting to get coloration in my SPS which has eluded me since starting to keep them in the past year.

WC usually takes less then 10 min and has gotten me in the habit of observing my tank daily where in the past I could have gone several days as my tank is in my basement. Once in the rhythm, you feel guilty for missing a day!

Water change #53!

Did that 10 gallon change today (a double) since there's plenty of water now. :) :)

Also, mixed both buckets manually with a paddle just to see the time difference. None. The difference was mostly that I was standing there - pumps work unattended. :) Both buckets were ready in about a minute, maybe two...similar to using a pump. Nice to do a water change in a completely analog fashion and still have it be quick and easy! I just can't also be doing something else.

Filling, carrying and emptying twice the buckets was definitely twice as hard and took twice as long. Surprise! ;)

I think this proves five gallons per day is my limit, unless I upgrade to a seven gallon bucket, letting me do more in a single trip. Sounds harder. I think I'd consider installing permanent drain and fill plumbing near the tank first. Sounds expensive in time and money. Staying with five gallons (=5% for me) as it still seems an ideal compromise.

27/27 in December and 48 days in a row! Things are looking good.

Good work Tim and Matt, I'm sure your livestock appreciates the hard work!
