What can cause acans and favia to not do well but hammers, blastos, candycane, bubble coral, leathers and even a clam to do ok assuming my water isn't perfect. Wouldn't the fish and at least other corals not do well?

The two better looking ones are fairly new, the other is coming back but still not well. My tests are almost always consistantly on the bad side but stable no matter how many water changes, I have cheato and sea lettuce in my sump, not mixed though. My salinity is 1.026 and temp about 80. I swap between the red sea test and the cheapo api reef masters test. I have salifert and hanna checkers for the other stuff but dont test often cause it's always consistent if that makes sense.

Hey yeah nipping fish is also a very valid reason. With that in mind I was wondering how new your tank is, there really should be zero ammonia and zero nitrites. Looking at your tests I would be concerned that you are either overstocked or don't have a bio filter that is mature enough to handle your bio load. You might want to consider carbon dosing in the future to bring down your nutrients as well. Not sure this is what is causing your problem with your acan corals though. I would move them to a shaded spot where they are not under direct light and see if they start inflating and looking better.

My tank has been up since September. However it was up before that, I bought it from a guy already set up. I took it down and moved it. I have yet to have 0 ammonia no matter how little I feed or how many water changes. I have a 90 gallon with
4 chromies
2 clowns
1 basslet
1 fire fish
1 coral beauty
1 yellow tang
1 gobi
1 blenny
1 dottyback
1 damsel
Various snails and crabs
1 decorator crab
A blood shrimp
A duams lobster.
I have a media reactor with gfo in it and a baggie with carbon in it. Biomedia block and rocks with cheato and sea lettuce. A reef octopus skimmer and 2 filter socks.

Cant seem to figure out why my water never stabilized. Apart from biolad or over feeding. Unless it's the sand. ‍♀️

the coral beauty is known for picking at corals so it may need additional/supplemental feeding if you keep it. Also the ammonia levels seem high. can you post a picture of your sump?

I wouldn't totally trust those API results. The fact that you have some corals doing well and some fleshy LPS doing so bad really points to the coral beauty. I had one that loved my acans and candy cane. In my experience with dwarf angels feeding them more won't curb the appetite for coral. Once they get a taste it's game over.

I dont think it's my fish, the corals that dont do well...dont do well from the time they go into the tank. It's a 50-50 when I put coral in. They either are ok or they dont settle in.

Sometimes you won't see a fish picking in the corals, I have a coral beauty and he leaves everything alone for the most part. You can always catch the angel fish and put it in the sump and see if anything improves BUT realistically sometimes it's almost impossible to catch them. The ammonia test API can be quite unreliable but you have a positive on two different tests and a positive test with nitrite. This tells me you have a problem, another solution to help with this is to buy a canister filter and put bioballs and other media used to grow bacteria and in a way create a bio filter. Water changes are a poor way to export nutrients, cheato and NoPox works for me. The sand doesn't store ammonia but it can store nitrate and phosphate.

I just cant figure out what the problem is or at least what's causing the problem. I dont have much room under my tank for stuff and no room left in my sump.

That's been my issue all along, trying to figure out what is causing my water issues and how to fix it. Also I dont have much room under my tank or even in my sump for that matter.

What's your source water? RO/DI?

Do you dose anything?

When you say "Bio media block" what kind? Some of these leach aluminum into the water collum.

I personally run very high N03 in my system (40 ppm) and never any issues with Acans or Euphyllia. Yours is high and off the Red sea chart. Try a different N03 kit like API (Yes, API) to get a understanding of just how high it is.

I suspect possible contaminants.

You should really have zero ammonia, and nitrite. Seems like your tank is stuck in the middle of the cycle. Not necessarily the problem, but definitely not helping. You could try something like Bio Spira to move things along.

I've had the same issue with Acans, though. Some die back, and others do well. No rhyme or reason for it that I can identify, honestly.
