Acans under LED

I have been running radions for over a year now and needless to say, I am about to switch. I had t5 on my old tank and color and growth were far better than what I am getting with LED. Thinking of switching to a combo t5/led.

I only ordered acans one time and they came covered in that nasty brown slime. Didn't have any experience with it so I sent it back for store credit and never again did I get an acan. Probably should rethink on that

I'm in the middle of my tank build. Will hopfully have it ready for corals in the next week. When they first go in there will be an XR3o Pro on the tank with the wide lens (currently on the temp frag tank everything is in). About a week later I'm hoping to have the rail kit to hang the Aurora. A local guy decided to get rid of his acans to make room for more zoa's (he's another zoa hoarder :eek:) so I'm buying the entire garden! He's got them under XR30s right now. I'll take some before and after progression shots.

I think the issue is more of how much light they get vs what kind of light. You have to remember where they come from. I also experienced a lot of nice rainbows turning red. Once I started moving stuff to lower light areas or even shade they very slowly started bouncing back.

As WilRams suggested I also believe its the amount of light vs the type of light. I have been running pros for over a year on my acans and have moved them from darker areas to brighter and vice versa. They do much better for color in lower light areas. The first pic is when it was in higher light and it showed to be more red and the second is lower light under some rockscape which seemed to bring out more of the rainbow colors.

Let's see some pics after about 2 years under leds, my acans did fantastic for about a year. Then they became a struggle, if you are talking about keeping the blue or purple colors. Those colors seem to be impossible to keep long term in any coral. There are some minor trace elements that help bring out these colors, to a point. Even my blue ricordeas go to a more blue/green after a while.

Blue and orange ricordeas been under radions over 2 years and still very blue. I got these from a friend who also had them under radions. And my purple acans have been under radions for a year and a half and still very much purple with green centers although it's hard to get a good pic of the purple color with my phone under blue lights.

I have a couple acan's I've had under LEDs, just blue and white, for at least a couple years. They have great color, but i also keep them on the sand floor. I find water parameters matter more for color than anything. You have to be careful with LEDs they will burn acan's of not acclimated right, start with low, ramp up every week or 2, they will 'reach' for light if needed.

My acan garden got delivered last night. They came from Radions with I think just two T5 bulb supplements.

I'll post update pics ever few days to see how they change.
