I got a acanthophyillia recently into my reef tank, he was added on Sunday onto the low corner of the tank (very low flow). He hasn't been opening much, he retracts fully into his skeleton at night but during the day one side of him puffs up while the other puffs halfway, is this normal? Is he still acclimating?

10 dkh alkalinity
420 calcium
13 ppm nitrate
I ordered a phosphate test kit, but I don't have algae growing nor do I have any other problems with other corals, he's next to a cynarina which puffs up and becomes huge and releases feeder tentacles at night. I've also got a frogspawn and a blasto colony that is also doing good. No fish that can pick at the coral, only thing that bothers it is sometimes the scorpionfish I have sits on it. I gave him some pellets and he ate a few of them.

Thank you for the reply, here are the pictures. This is just before lights out, during night he retracts a little bit more. During the day he is larger.

He released some zoox, cynarina did this when it was first added for a few nights and now is very healthy. Is this a part of the acclimation process? Also isn't their lighting requirements similar? If he doesn't fully extend for a few more days I'll move him under a ledge.

Id give it a few days. I dont see any stone structure which is tissue lose. Looks healthy and probably adapting to the tank.

Thank you so much, I watched Than's video a lot of times and still do. His are more puffy than mine but when I first saw mine it was huge, I guess it's the shipping stress. Cynarina did it for a few days as well, it would deflate so much that it's skeleton would be showing and it would expel some zoox but after a few days it inflated bigger than ever. Fingers crossed, thank you again.
