I will be receiving this vibrant green nem in the next couple of days.

I will eventually be putting it in a new RS170 (not set up yet) as a species tank. I have a RS 750 up and running for a year and a 30 gal quarantine that I can set up at a moments notice.

My question is, should I place it in my 750 (200 gals) or should I keep it in the quarantine till my 170 is ready? Also any acclimating tips would be helpful.

The only other info I have about it is that it is an Indo species and recently arrived at the shippers location a couple days prior.

TIA

in general, it’s not a good idea to put carpet nems in newly setup tanks. Your best bet for good acclimation is your 750, but if you want to quarantine it then may as well go with the 170 right away. The less you move it the better.

Thanks. The 170 is not an option as I’ve only put the stand together. It’s either the established 750 or the 30 gal quarantine. I would have to do a water change on the 750 and use that water for the quarantine, hasty setup.

If you can, move a few rocks from 750 to the QT. Reusing water won’t really get you far in transferring the biofilter.

Right. I keep a bunch of bio balls in the sump just for these occasions. I take several and place them in the 30 when I’m going to start it up.

I lean more toward using the QT and using rocks/biomedia from your 750 if your 750 has corals or fish you don't want to possibly nuke.

Nice looking gig, we have the same color. Just give it clean water and good light and you may not need cipro.

Also wait for it to settle before you feed it, feed it small amounts, and give the food a good rinse before feeding.

Thanks for all the positive vibes. I’m not one to really medicate new arrivals of any kind but I was going off of the majority of nem acclimation posts.

I set up its acclimation tank

and am going to cross my fingers.

Just an update for Day 1. The nem was fully stretched out today. It almost looked like a cabbage. I still haven’t found any vet to release some Cipro. I’m wondering wether to just wing it without or wait several days for it to arrive from EBay.

We usually advise having cipro on hand, because time is of the essence in treating for bacterial infections, but don't treat unless you see signs of deflation.

QT and observation is best, then into established display unless you do see signs of bacterial infection, then you would need to follow the cipro protocol stickied above.

Petmountain.com is where I got cipro online last time, fish flox
