Acrylic tank damage during shipping

I filed with shipping company before they left. Spoke with manufacturer and they’re working everything out. I was looking more for advice on do I try to get a discount or do I ask for a full rebuild. The more I run my finger through the damage, my gut says rebuild.

Personally, I'd go with rebuild since you bought it new. I'd expect a flawless tank delivered, especially knowing the cost of them!

That's a wise assessment.
The last thing you want is all that water on "de flo" at worst, or at best a new tank that was not cheap with a bunch of blemishes all over it.

It's just unfortunate, a day that should be exciting and rewarding turns into a turd because a bunch of tree sloths ruin your property.

Okay the glue joints looked great! Only question I have now is… is that gouge a 1/4” deep on the bottom or is that a scratch on the side of the tank? If that’s the side then it’s okay “structurally”.. if that’s in the bottom and that deep it would be a concern to me.

The scratch is on the bottom. Starts at the end of the side panel and goes 8-12 inches in. The gouge is big enough that I can probably put the tip of my pinky in it. If it could be filled and be safe then I’d maybe go for a discount but I’m getting the feeling that wouldn’t be wise.

I know everyone is trying to help you but they haven’t built acrylic tanks or worked with acrylic much less so let’s lessen the noise for a minute lol.. the tank in my opinion is structurally fine and safe to use! Does it suck it’s scratched yes? Would I want a new tank personally? No! That’s just me! That means waiting a couple more months and a big hassle honestly.. if it was my tank I would ask for a nice discount and fill that bad boy up! You’ll never see it under the sand or corraline if you go bare bottom. That’s my 2 btw I have 30 years experience with acrylic and still to this day do it for a living…

That was my thought. If it’s safe to use I don’t mind a scratch that I’ll never see. I’m not going to pay full price for it though. I understand full price should mean perfect but new tank with a discount because of a scratch, I don’t care. It’s more about will it crack.

Nah it’s not gonna crack.. the situation sucks but I’d say make the best of it and get some money back..

Got some help getting it onto its back for better photos. Not sure if it helps or not.

Yeah it’s just a blemish that sucks.. that’s 1” acrylic it will be fine.. it takes so much to break that! If it was gonna crack it would have cracked riding on the nail in transit and bouncing around in the back of a truck… it’s safe man… it’s not gonna effect the structual integrity of it once it’s sat down on a nice flat board on top of the stand.. fill her up and ask for a partial refund.. what ever amount makes you happy..

It’s only 1/2 inch. That make a difference? 1inch I wouldn’t be questioning. Had one that was 1 inch thick walls at one point and felt like it was bullet proof. 1/2 inch I’m questioning.

It should still be fine.. how deep are the scratches? It can’t really crack as the down force will be on the top of the stand and it’s supported under it..

I’d say deepest is 2/32 to 3/32. There are these deeper cracks/defects that I can’t get anything in to measure but you can see in the reflection in this image.

I think so. They’re not part of the scratch. They’re inside the acrylic.

Man that’s so hard to say without seeing it in person.. my gut tells me it’s okay but hard to say over the internet lol… is there any local plastic shops or tank builders that could look at it for you? I mean flipping it over and casting it with Weldon 40 or 42 would be ideal.. I really don’t think it would fail but I can’t be 100% without seeing it in person lol.

They’re rebuilding it. I just don’t want to risk it with where it’s going. Maybe I’ll have 2? Sounds like they won’t take this one back. thanks for all the input. Not looking forward to waiting again even though it’s only 2-3 weeks this time.
