ADDING A UV TO MY TANK

I have a Jebao PU-55 UV Clarifier laying around that I decided to add to my reef system just to clarify the water and maybe help control algae and whatever pests it will help with my question is how many gph pump should I be using for that?

I don't think that Jebao published information on flow rates for their products, but I may be mistaken. There is an older thread about this somewhere on the forum.

In either case it will depend on what you want to use it for. By clear your water, I'm assuming take care of algae, yes? If so, you can send it through considerably faster than if you were trying to control parasites. I would suggest looking at similarly sized devices and estimating from there. You'll want to look at dwell / exposure time.

Yes the main reason for it is for algae control, I understand the parasites will require a separate dwell time for sure. I guess a follow up question is to be most effective should it be drawing and returning water to the display tank? Right now I have it drawing and returning to the sump.

It could go either way and still be "effective". Personally, I run a 57 watt off a manifold and return it to the DT via separate returns.

I run mine between 100 - 150 gph , it is 25 watt , I run mine off a manifold as well but I return it back into the sump . With the lower wattage I run it slower than most . It gets the job done and I only run it for 12 hours a day .

So I'm running a Supreme Classic #3 which is 350 gph so I can turn that one wide open and still have room to go to a bigger volume pump I guess 350 gph will kill about anything through the 55 wt.
