Hi all,

Question when it comes to adding corals for the first time.

I have a AI Prime 16HD. I'm guessing it's good to use acclimation mode when adding your first coral?

What I am also unsure of, is for every coral after the first one do you use acclimation mode again? Therefore giving less light to existing coral that is already acclimated. Or would you only use it the first time and then any future coral just try to sit them in lower parts on the tank for a while and gradually move them up?

Any help is much appreciated.

Maybe its a personal thing but I've never used it, I don't think its a good idea to disrupt the system every time to add a coral. I just set them on the sand for a few days to acclimate then place em where I want.

With that said, its a good idea to ask the vendor what type/intensity they have for lighting, there might not even be a need for acclimation

I always put new coral on sand bed, and then raise slowly over a week or so to correct height on to my rocks....

Do you generally just run your light at 100%? Or is that dependant on the type of light and tank size as it could be too intense at the top directly underneath the LEDs?

I just have one AI Prime 16HD and a Waterbox 25g Peninsula.

Low Light > High Light, but I 100% agree with not upsetting the whole tank's light schedule every time you add a frag.

my main tank has halides so I can't adjust them and they are bright. So I place corals low just to get used to the light then move them up.

My softie tank has a prime 16, its a 15 gallon 12" depth tank, the light is at 70% for mostly mushrooms and zoa's and a few lps corals. I dont acclimate corals in this tank, I just go ahead and place them. IMO your light should be set at about 80% for your size tank, I've never lost a coral due to high light with the prime 16.

Its a very good light for these size tanks, but they are not super overly powerful that you need to worry about cooking any corals.
