My acan echinata decided it wanted to eat my wellsophyllia last night. Half of it is covered in digestive slime and looks awful. :(

Is there anything I can do to save my wellso? This acan has also nuked a blue polyp nasuta and a small colony of RPE's in the past. I had 5" in between them knowing this acan's history.

I always thought that leaving the slime on the stung coral is better than blowing it off?.....thinking that its the coral's natural defense to slime up and protect itself.

Not sure now huh...kind of a mixed bag of advice

I believe it is the corals natural deffence, but in nature the flow would blow the slime away. In an aquarium it just promotes a bacterial infection.

I would agree with blowing the coral off with a turkey baster. I would also keep an eye on it and do a dip if it doesn't look like it is improving within a day. Also keep it in a little lower flow area if that is possible.

Thanks for the response. I blew the slime and dead flesh off and will closely monitor it.

Morgan, should I dip it in Lugols or TMPCC?

Mike, I would try the TMPCC or Revive. I have also use peroxide on open brains with some level of success.

Echinatas are reef napalm waiting to happen. This is exactly why I do not have one in my system.

So far there has been no dieoff at all. It seems to open up a little more each day, but nothing like it was before. I think I might have dodged a bullet. Thanks again for the help everyone.
