Came across these diffusers for Hydras from 3D reef. Wish I would have come across them sooner. I like the spread of the light much better with the diffuser.

They are pretty cool in that they just snap right onto the Hydra so no need to take lights down etc. they have little notches to put whatever material you want to use with the diffuser. They came with a prism type diffuser. Was wondering how that diffuser material is vs the frosted glass like the Radions use.

Company was fast and shipped them right away. Thanks 3D reef!!!!!

Looks great!

Can you comment on how it is before and after?

Are you just trying to get rid of the discoball effect?

Thanks!

I really went with the diffusers to try and kill some hot spots I was having with the Hydras. Directly under the pucks I was getting about 600 par with 350 off to the sides. Haven’t checked par yet since I put them on. I’ll try and get to it soon.

Visually, there is less shadowing with just the hydras on with no T5. I never saw much shimmer with the Hydras so I can’t really comment on that.

I will say too that if I was running Hydras without a canopy there is no way in the world I wouldn’t have these on the lights as they block a ton of light spill.

Forgot to mention that my lights are currently about 11 inches AWL. If I could have a easy do over I would have them at about 16-18inches AWL which I think would be the sweet spot. Even with them at 16-18 inches, I’d definitely still have these diffusers on them.

Good deal. You will like them. Wish I would have found these a long time ago.

C'mon we need more info. What did they accomplish? Is it more of a T5 look? Are corals getting lit from all sides vs before? Details please. My wallet is itchy. Lol

I’ve got these. I honestly can’t tell a difference aside from a drop in par. :)

They do block the light spill pretty well, so they stay.

Look up holographic diffusor.
There is a whole art and science on it.
That said sanded Plex works for some.

The one you have looks like small lenses.

The ones on quality lights are not always as"simple" as they seem.

I didn’t purchase them to change the way the light presents in the water. Never had a problem with disco or anything like that. I got them to try and eliminate hot spots. they have definitely helped eliminate hot spots directly u def the light. As another poster said they block light spill.

The other nice thing is you can put any diffuser material in the mold that you want to run.

The diffuser is a prismatic type. Pretty good from what I’ve read. Maybe the best.

Old but any updates?

Thinking about getting these for my Hydra 64 but looking at par distribution.
