Ain't That Peculiar?

As I recall, one of the first things I was told regarding fish behavior was how individualistic they can be. Maybe I'm lucky (or just boring) but it has been my experience that despite that, for the most part, my angels behave like angels, my tangs behave like tangs, my anthias behave like anthias, and so on. Until recently. I've got a Bell's Wrasse who 'goes to bed' every day at 11:00 am. Seriously. After 11:00 am, he will disappear into the rockwork and you will not see him again until the very next morning, period. Until 11:00 am, that is. Not even for feeding.

Now since these guys are so darn individualistic, I can't be the only one who's got a fish with a unique behavior. Anybody else want to share stories of their trigger that doesn't act like a trigger? Maybe your grouper eats only nori. Let's hear your fish peculiarities so you'll not feel so...peculiar.

I don't know anything about how fish should behave, but my Green Coris Wrasse also goes to bed one a schedule, around 9:30PM. My lights don't dim, and shut off hard at 11.

My favorite fish behavior story was about a long nose butterfly that a lady brought back to the fish store I was working at. She claimed that the butterfly had terrorized all her fish, including a clown trigger. My coworkers thought she was making up the story and asked me (manager) what to do. I instructed them to give her full credit and to release the butterfly fish into our trigger tank.

That butterfly fish was clearly possessed by the devil, he chased and beat up anything that was in the same tank.

Hahaha... my yellow coris does same thing. Its a joke in our house on what time it is when yellow goes to bed. Doesn't wake up until 11am either.

My wife constantly worries he's not eating as misses meals.

They all have very unique personalities, it's quite exciting to learn them individually.

I know a guy who once had a Clown Trigger that used to spit a stream of water at him every time he leaned over the tank to feed him. Never his wife. Never his kids. Just him.

I know this can be true. Mine was a clown trigger too! This has to be documented somewhere about this behavior. No way this is coincidence.

It’s going...literally. We’re in the process of selling the house and moving South. Possibly Savannah, GA. Still got the tank but it’ll have to come down soon. On the fence about my next build but that’s a whole other thread. Thanks for asking.

I'm certain my Dragon Wrasse has a watch !!!

He wakes up at midday everyday then goes to bed at 10:00pm every night.

First week I had him he would get up early morning and be gone to bed at 11am ! Fortunately he's changed his pattern to suit my viewing pleasure. :)

I have a yasha goby who loves to look out the window! With the current tank placement he can’t see one, but where the tank used to be there was a window on the left side. Every few seconds he would zip up to the top corner, hover and look out the window, then zip back to his hole and repeat!
