Hi guys,

I got a copperband and a foxface almost a week ago. I really like copperbands and also wanted to try my hand at some more challenging fish (never again—too much anxiety! :D). Secretly, I hoped it would help with my aiptasia invasion.

I already tried peppermint shrimp—they are cute but weren’t able to tackle the problem. The copperband still refuses to eat frozen or canned food but is pecking at mastick and clams, as well as picking around the tank all day. I have definitely increased my feeding since I got him, which has made my aiptasia problem worse.

This morning, I noticed a white spot on the foxface, which looks like an baby aiptasia to me. None of the other fish show anything similar, and the Foxface is eating well and behaving normally.I found some other threads describing aiptasia on foxface, so I hope it just that

This was a good description and appears to be mucus plugs from a skin irritation and you can also see a few spots with ich. Best is to place fish in a separate tank and treat with coppersafe at 2.25 for 30 days. Fish also can be placed in hyposalinity as an option (1.009 salinity) with added aeration

It looks like an injury to me. Only one spot, and it is too large to be ich. That said, the pictures are very dark, they might be hiding some other issues. Can you post lighter pictures and a video?

Thanks for the infos. For now I left him in, and plan to reevaluate tomorrow. He "shed" his mucus layer(happened a few times since I got him, he sheds and than eats it), and now the white thing, and also the white specks are gone, the black part full black. Can he do that with mucus plugs and itch? There are lots of particles and speck in the water column, because I was moving the aquascape, trying to reset my tang territory. Can it be just stuff sticking to him from the watercolumn?

I will try to take a white light video tomorrow.
