Algae identification

Hi there, my tank has been running for about 2-4 months now and in getting this brown algae type of stuff on the rocks and sand bed. Does anyone know what it is? It wont scrape off the rocks with a tooth brush

Looks like diatoms to me. It's typically the first type of algae you'll see in a new setup. I wouldn't worry about it. Once your copepod population grows they will eat most of it.

It's not one of the bad kinds of algae. If it starts to look more like three-dimensional, brown goop with bubbles in it, then I'd be concerned about dinoflagellates.

Would you take a full tank shot in white light?

Can rock be removed from tank? I use peroxide with toothbrush to sanitize undesired organisms.

Where did rock come from and how did you cycle your tank?

welcome to the "ugly stage".
ultimately, all the surfaces will be covered in bio-film (you want this), don't expect your rocks to stay their original color.
