Algae issue

Curious I have some type of brown stringy algae that showed up. None of my snails dying. Nitrates were almost to zero. Started on glass first. Now growing on some of the hair algae in tank. I removed almost all my chaeto when I seen nitrates almost to zero. Removed half 5 gal bucket left softball size in.

Hey, did you check ph and Po4? New tank or older? Could be cyano. Lights are fairly blue so cannot see the true color. Notice any bubbles in the threads?

I hate this word, but may be Dino. Stringy and bubbles can be a sign.

Does it go away lights out and return lights on?

If No3 is close to zero and Po4 high it may be an imbalance thing. You run any type of GFO to help with Po4. Bringing it down may help.

No stays there all night.
All I use is chaeto in refugium and skimmer

Dino, or dinoflagellates, often need light to thrive. There are many, many species of dinoflagellates - some are good, some are bad, and some that produce toxins. Here is an R2R thread offering a Helpful Method for Identifying Dinoflagellates.
