Hey guys I just recently started up my new tank. It's older than 2 weeks old. I am beginning to notice an orange algae growing on the sand and rocks. Is this normal? Now I read somewhere that keeping your protein skimmer off during cycling period helps the growth of bacteria for the tank? I was thinking the protein skimmer being off may have something to do with it.

I believe ... Diatoms ... normal.
Check here ... Stage 4 of cycle.
