AliExpress A8SE Reef Light

I got it. You have to turn off the scan protect feature under your profile in the Google app store. So in the top right corner you have to click on your profile. Go to scan, protect and turn it off.. I followed that and was able to install the app successfully. Now I can control the light. However it's not very intuitive so I'm going to have to spend some time playing around with this thing.
Great, sorry I didn't remember that part, I might have had it turned off for some other app. Yes, the app is kinda confusing and takes some time as some of the confirmation messages are in Chinese.

How did you obtain a better power supply for this light?
I didn’t. The one in the photo is the standard power supply you get with the light.
The MeanWell power supply puts out less power(180w) if you are on 110-120v domestic system. Only if you have 220-240v like in the U.K do you get the full 240w.

So the standard power supply actually puts out more power if you are in the U.S. at 208w

Im on 110-120V system with the meanwell and at all 100% my kill-a-watt says 205w... (A8 215w model)

My statement comes from reading the specs of the MeanWell. If you are getting higher power then that’s really good going.

Not a huge correction, but the standard power supply puts out 200w nominally (32V*6.25A). I have no need to run them anywhere near full power, but I wonder what happens if you try.

Probably not much. Slight loss in output.
Leds are pretty passive.. they don't pull current really ..AFAICT BUT YMMV.

For those that are worried..
$106 upgrade (360 watts, 10A)
Running around 50% of capacity probably doesn't hurt efficiency. Can't say what happens below that though.
No curve in the spec sheet.

A less sealed and with a fan ps.

LRS-350-36

is only $39

Couldn't, atm, find any straight 250w ps that were reasonable . TDK-Lambdas were over $200

Like you said many may run under full power, even if it's just one channel dimmed..

Found this "Oddball" one that is rated 226.8W on ch-1

I have the A8se II max, so the "white" version, its somewhere around 120 degrees. But you can switch out the lens with the high intensity one from the XR30, which makes it around 90 degrees. That's what I did, and now I have 300 par on top of my reef while only running 20% power (4 blue channels 100%, 4 other channels like whites 80%). First I needed 40% for that, but bottom corner is now 80par instead of 150.
Can someone help me with the actual steps to program the A8 SE2 blue.? I simply can't figure out how to create and save the program and there is nothing in the manual or app

Anyone have any experience with this light? Just found it browsing AliExpress and thought it looked to be a pretty good knock off of the XR30

AliExpress A8SE

I tried searching but nothing came up unless I was searching wrong
Only experience I have is also just looking it up but what I found is that the a8se has cheap Chinese led’s while the a8 has nicer cree led’s. I’d recommend the a8 or gen 2 hyper reef but for $200 more you could get the Reefi uno 2.1 which is what I’m going with

Yeah the price has been creeping up on them they are too close to better branded LED's now i think.

sorry $200 vs $500 isnt close. i will take my a8se ii blue over anything else for bang for buck. Nicrew gen 2 doesnt come close. I bought one and returned after a week as it was underwhelming. I will pass on the reefi as its more than double the price so I am not sure how others that are in the same price range even come close.

I'm more comparing the Price of the A8 Pro's to the Radion G6's.
For us here in Aus they are $930 compared to $1200 for the Radions.

To me that is too close to the same price to risk - I would give the cheaper one's a try though.

Does anyone know if these XR30 shades will work on the A8 Pro lights? It is unclear to me how the shades connect to the light. It looks like some magnet but is the there a magnet inside the light that the shades need to pair with?

https://3dreefing.com/collections/shades-diffusers/products/xr30-g5-6-shade

They do fit. The wide shades are much nicer though imo. They attach from the sides, no magnets.
I'm low key rocking X30. Reefers got to reef (without going bankrupt).

I know Aus has high prices but how is the A8 pro that much more. I can order it of aliexpress for $330.
