AliExpress A8SE Reef Light

I printed two of these reflectors and I just care for the looks of them hanging over my frag tank. My tanks are in the basement so I don’t care about light spillage. They are designed for a radion so you will have to drill a hole in one of them for the power cord. Free just pay my postage. Pic is two of them stacked.
I'm interested in them if you still have.

The standard power supply is only rated for about 200w. So keep this mind if you want to go full radioactive with your light intensity. I ‘assume’ it will get very hot if trying to push it with maximum settings.

Output: 32v at 6.25amps = 208w

Can you or anyone elaborate on this.. Does this mean the power supply can only safely support 200W or that it can only output 200W and nothing more.

up to 200w...
Note though that w/ these switching power supplies going too low hurts efficiency..
Say running a 200w ps with a 10w load. The data sheets spell it out though.
Designs differ.

And one older "rule of thumb" is not to go to 200W but 200 * .9 (10% less)
so at most 180w maximum. That's for longetivity, lower stress.

For efficiency .. 50% of rating.
Example from computer ps ratings:

Thank you!!!! One of the Alibaba sellers was telling me it was “written low”, but this seems sketchy to me lol I don’t know enough about them though.. I want to make sure I’m not about to start a house fire or spend more for higher wattage that I can’t actually get. Most of the guaranteed sellers have said that Mean Well is allegedly out of stock

Now I’m confused. So, power supplies are deliberately underrated?

Or are they rated to some kind of ‘nominal’ or average power rating?

Maybe a different question is whether any existing light users are experiencing power problems with the stock units. I've only heard of people having problems with the replacement Meanwell power supplies.

I have had zero issues and one light has a meanwell the other the generic power supply
both are an A8se II Blue
I have had the meanwell unit for about 3months now and the other light has only been up for a little over a week.
I am only running about 95w from them though. So they are not pushed very hard

I tried to rabbit hole this.. The sellers mentioned the UL certification, and I saw the Level VI energy efficiency standardization printed on the supply. In 2016 the US came out the VI categorization and something about up to 250W, or 500W under certain circumstances, but I don’t get why they couldn’t put 250W, but something about the “no-load” power supply and not deeming the voltage over 6V~

I don’t have the brain power to dig deeper. I just question wouldn’t it be inefficient to put superior parts that handle more wattage and dumb it down on the print, instead of building to match the print? :/

Occam’s razor.. they are lying to not let the power supply stop me from buying the light..

They will tell you anything.

As for Meanwell OOS. Again, they will tell you anything. One of the biggest and best PSU suppliers world wide have no stock for long periods of time.

Sales rule over facts I think.

Wake up, they are sending out inferior PSUs and fobbing off those that question it.

@oreo54 knows and just explained.

Anyway, seen enough.

Yea, I figured. Thanks! Just like to check all the boxes before calling the seller a liar or otherwise.

@Jonreefer I saw your post before it got deleted.

Not nice.

No need at all for name-calling when I agree with the presented facts.

Your response just confirmed your ignorance of the facts.

how to know how many watts are you running currently and maybe what settings does it max out at 180W

My dude. As someone who has these lights and casually follows this thread, your obsession with a product you don’t own or plan to own is truly bizarre. Like bordering pathological lol. Just let people enjoy their things.

lol because these forums are sometimes all certain people have and find things to harp on ;-)

Well said but it did continue with more abuse and deleted posts from the very same poster.

Such a shame.
