The real bully in this thread is the one that spends half their post history here criticizing and ridiculing those who are happy with a product after being continually told their posts are unsupported, unwarranted, and unwanted. Repeating and exaggerating all the worst hearsay over a product that you have no personal experience with is not adding anything useful to the discussion. That should be obvious from everyone's attitude towards your posts here, but maybe that's the whole point for you.

Well back to the light discussion. Has anyone ordered >$800 since the start of tariffs? The <$800 waiver ends May 2. I need 4 lights, but allegedly if they aren’t in the US by may 2nd, then I believe they will hold the item at customs and potentially await tariff payment at 124% or something. Not sure if they come after the buyer or seller for the tariffs, assuming buyer. Alibaba doesn’t include projected tariffs at checkout or anything.

Has anyone had experiences yet?

I purchased an A8 Pro II Max on the 14th. Initially, AliExpress said it shipped. Then, I received a message the shipment was cancelled. Refund underway now. As of yesterday, the site indicates shipments can't be sent to my address in the US.

I ordered from Alibaba on the 20th. Mine is on a plane today. Will likely clear customs in next couple of days. I bought as a backup and because they were a good deal. Glad I did.

I ordered two of the a8se on the 24th. The seller assured me I would not be charged any import customs. I sure hope that they make it with no problems. Most sellers on aliexpress list that delivery to my address is unavailable.

I run my A8SE II Blue at 35% blues/purple/UV and rest at around 10% or so and the light is pulling about 70watts. It's plenty light for my 4ft long 17" tall tank.

Must have been the BreezeAqua seller. Shows my address is unavailable with them as well. Some alibaba sellers were saying they would be stopping shipment 5/1

Well I just got screwed over on ordering the lights. I ordered one pro light on the 6th and have yet to receive it. I just received an email from ups louisville intl. that I owe $129.30
This was the pro version I paid a little over $300 for. I contacted the seller who assured me there would be no customs charges. I also ordered 2 more of the se models on the 24th which he also assured me there would be no customs charges. I havent received the bill for those yet so hard to tell how much they will be. At this point if I refuse to not pay are the lights sent back? And then will they ever be received and a credit issues. From where I stand I am just about forced to pay the customs fees.

I agree, looks like you'll be paying the customs fees if you want your lights to be delivered. This current charge and also the bigger charge to come.

So much for the sellers assurances but once a sale has taken place he is done and paid. He simply fulfilled his obligation and shouldn't comment on additional customs charges.

Exactly like I said, some of these sellers will tell you anything about everything and anything to get a sale.

All this tarriffs stuff is affecting things unexpectedly. I have a hygger wavemaker that I bought from Amazon that has its electrical wire bit by my urchin that exposes the inner wires. Hygger is willing to ship me a free replacement part for the wire and the motor even though my hungry urchin is not their fault but it is also effected by tarriffs since it's being shipped from China.

Ill pay the 54% tariff if thats all I get charged but if I get hit with the 145% I wont accept the lights. Not sure how that will work either. I payed through paypal but charged it to my credit card. This is a mess.

If that’s the case, I’d go through PayPal first. They have pretty strong buyer protections, and usually sellers are very concerned about getting on their bad side. I think this would qualify as a hidden cost and typically they’ll ask for evidence, which you have in the form of the seller saying you wouldn’t have to pay extra.

I’m not sure about the customs issue, but I’d argue those lights don’t belong up you until they’re imported, which they aren’t yet.

Do you have any invoice/paperwork from the seller mentioning either DDP or DDU?

When the shipper pays duties, fees or taxes, it is called Delivery Duty Paid (DDP). This can improve the customer experience by providing additional clarity and transparency during the buying process. Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) means the receiver will need to pay.

As for charge backs and such like. It's not that easy in this instance because the seller has fulfilled his obligation.

If you decide not to pay, after a brief look at US rules and experiences, you could be in for a whole lot more expense by the looks of it and "you are still responsible for the customs fees, even if you refuse the delivery" I have read.

UPS US explain it on their website.

Not good.
