AliExpress A8SE Reef Light

I’m using version 2.5.9 I attached a screenshot of the my section, no option for timezone whatsoever, I actually do have a dedicated 2.4ghz SSID, as in that it is a separated network with 2.4ghz only. So that shouldn’t be the problem. I tested both lights multiple times, reinstalling apps, tried on different devices, reset the modem, turning phone on and off. It just really don’t want to connect. What I do is connect to the light wifi, open the app, then I get the direct connect prompt, go there, update the time, go back to menu, and push the + after that selecting my 2.4ghz network, enter the password(only numbers/letters, it’s awful long tho, it has capital letters, is that a special character maybe? ) than it will try to connect for a while and than a message that is can’t connect. I have a kamoer doser and redsea ato on the same network which works fine.
I'm on 2.3.26 because the Android version of 2.5.9 has an install error, so I don't know if it has changed in the new version, but here's how I add a light to the app.
  • Delete the light from the app if it's still there but disconnected.
  • Hold the middle button on the light for several seconds until it shuts off and restarts, cycling through all the colors. This puts it into pairing mode.
  • Tap the + button in the app. App will prompt to connect to light wifi.
  • Connect to light wifi and go back to app.
  • Select your 2.4g SSID if it is not automatically detected, and enter the password (upper and lower case letters are fine). Make sure it's the correct password for that SSID if you're using different passwords.
  • Light will connect and prompt you to switch your phone back to your home wifi network.
  • Once you're back on home wifi you can tap on the light in the app and change settings.

How can I revert to the old version? Can you give me an apk?

So you click the + to add device, you pair to it and then on the next window you can't connect to your wifi?

Here is what I do
It is a a8se II max
After the last screenshot I select my 2g network enter password, it will say linking and then linking failed l.

According to the manual (real quick check) you cannot separate the bands. What I would do is by the equivalent of this in your country. Amazon product ASIN B08DHLCLCY
Edit- I take that back apparently there's a revision that does allow it to be separate. When setting mine up it did not like special characters in the Network Name or Password.

I will try to change the network name thanks!

It works!! There was a _ in my network name, changed that and worked first try. God bless you. Was about to kick them back to china

I installed the new update, updated the clock, and then I save the device. Then, when I unplug the device and plug it back in, everything is lost. UTC time zone reverts to Chinese time. Please help.

Have you set the time zone in the "My" section of the app? Updating the time when prompted will temporarily match your phone's time, but will adjust to whichever time zone is selected when the app disconnects.

After running a few of these for a few years it baffles me that Ecotech still sells lights. I have recently hopped on the mp40/60 knock offs from Jebao and once again would make the same comment. Please stop bashing Chinese products because someone who sells “American made” lights told you to do so. These do not catch fire and they work just as well.
Hey Matt, I am new here at Reef2Reef and from Germany. I am super interested in the A8se II max reef light and saw your beautiful pictures of some of your corals under this light. Can you show some more of your tank and tell me how the experience has been so far for you with these lights. It sounds like you are very convinced. There are just now so many pictures of tanks under these lights online so I hope you can change that :D Cheers, Paul

Hey everyone
I would like some input if possible in regards to secondary lighting option for 1 of my X30 Blue’s. I have 4 on my Waterbox 290.6 but we had a hydro guy come out and turn off the power to switch out the meter outside and when he put it back on my blue 2 LED’s don’t work. When I turn off the unit and it cycles through all the lighting colors the blue 2 does not turn on it just stays off and moves on to the purple.

I’ve tried resetting the unit and nothing but everything else works without issues.

My lighting is set on all 4 as follows.

White 5
Blue 70
Red 0
UV 70
Blue 2 70
Purple 70

I’ve ran this for a wile, can’t say that it’s the best but it’s the best I came up with so I went with it.

Now that my Blue 2 is out what would you all recommend i should set the lights at to compensate or stay equivalent if possible.

What I have done is as follows

White 20
Blue 100
Red 0
UV 100
Blue 2 nothing as that led section is not working
Purple 100

If anyone could offer me any advice I’d appreciate it.

I thought I’d also mention that I’m running version 2.3.8 it’s old but I updated once and that was a mistake, so as long as it’s working I’m good with an old version. I thought this may be an issue but the other 3 lights work properly.

Thanks

Hi. Look carefully, I think your blue LEDs are unsoldered. These lamps have a heat defect. The solder melts. Talk to the seller and see if they can send you a new panel, or even have a cell phone technician repair it. A new panel costs around 40 euros. To prevent them from unsoldering, I set the lamp to not reach 50 degrees. I'll post my settings. I love whites. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exceed 50 degrees. Sorry, but I'm Italian and I translated the message into English.

Ciao. Adoro i bianchi. Per quanto mi riguarda, non supera i 50 gradi. Scusate, ma sono italiano e ho tradotto il messaggio in inglese.

Hi, I'm Italian too, and since you have one, I'd like to know if the saved settings are lost in the event of a power outage. I'm planning on buying it on Aliexpress. Where did you get it? Thanks for the reply.
ps. How long have you been using it, what animals do you have in the tank, do you think it is valid?

Ciao Graziano allora
E in 15
Giorni c'è lai a casa la consegna Bartolini. Per ovviare il problema della mancanza di corrente devi comprare per pochi euro un UPS per modem .poi non spingerla all massimo perché si disaldano i led.

Thanks I appreciate the input. I will check this out for sure. But about 1 hour after my post there was this loud grinding or pulsing noise that camp from the lamp and I just unplugged it. Not sure if an unsoldering would cause the noise as well but I will reach out to the seller and see what he says and take a look at the soldering as well. Thanks again I appreciate your help.

Might be the fan. The fan has a cover over it and it is secured poorly. It could fall and rub on the fan.

Hi! Guys so I now have been reading all the way from page 1 of this thread. And as of last week I got my A8Se ii Blue. I am an technician and worked on computers for 15 years. Upon receiving my light, I immediately opened it up and Applied thermal grizzly thermal paste. Upon inspection I noticed the main board design is much different from version 1. The main board now sits directly on top of the heatsink as before it had 1.5mm gap for heat pads between. The heatsink has ALOT of grooves so I highly recommend to apply thermal paste if I guys are handy enough not to screw things up.

So previously some guys had issues with buttons not working after thermal paste application, and later it was found that not to disconnect the small ribbon cable while opening the light. I can CONFIRM that I have disconnected every cable just to make sure if that was the cause. And I have put together the led with 0 issues mentioned throughout the whole thread. So this myth is busted. (Also note this is the mark ii)

As for thermal, there is minimum of 10-20C difference, the grooves on the heatsink alone is 1mm deep, in the tech world, that's ALOT. That should alone make u apply thermal paste before using the light.
