Alkatronic pro reading way to high

Hi all

Got my alkatronic pro last week set it up and I keep getting very high readings so I went throught the setup process again remade another reagent mix did all the calibration ph calibration was done with hanna single use cal liquid but it still reads high.Hanna checker tells me its 9.1 alaktronic say 14.5 the only way to get it near is to use the baseline calibration settings but I am a bit reluctant to use this long term as stated in the manual it's for fine tune purposes not for such a massive discrepancy i have put two tickets in with focustronic but have not had a reply from them yet anyone have the same issue if so did you get it to work.

I had similar issues with my Alkatronic when first setting it up. I am making my own reagent by diluting 2.0M sulphuric acid. Originally what was recommended to me was that the solution needs to be .02M so this was a simple 100 to 1 dilution which I used as a starting point. So I mixed up 10ml of the sulphuric acid into 1000ml RODI. Upon running the first few tests I wound up with similar readings around 14-15DKH with my Hanna reading 8.5DKH.

The Alkatronic test uses a calculated titration to figure out the DKH of the test sample. In this application DKH simply put is the ability of the water to buffer(resist) low PH. Keeping this in mind when mixing your Alkatronic Reagent(Acid Solution) if the readings you are getting are too high(IE higher DKH than a test kit) then your acid is too weak. It is basically saying that it had to add a lot of acid to drop the PH of the sample. Having to add a larger volume of acid in order to drop the PH of the sample would indicate a higher buffering ability(resistance to low PH) also known as High Alkalinity(DKH). This larger volume of reagent needed to drop the PH would be seen by the algorithm in the Alkatonic as higher DKH.

To summarize my extended answer....either your reagent(acid) is too weak or one of your testers the Hanna or the Alkatronic is out of calibration.
