Was following the TM pro salt turkey batch thread. I have a new bucket of this. Hesitant to use now. My tank runs 1.026 temp 77 alk 8.5 calcium 420ish ph 8.1 mag 1400ish. Looking for an alt salt the the community values close to these numbers. Redsea pro alk is too boosted. Can’t find aquaforest. Red Sea salt looks doable. Any thoughts. Ty

There's a well kept secret in the reefing community that I'll let out.... Your salt selection doesn't matter. Pick one that's cheap and readily available. Anything beyond that is managed with dosing that is going to happen anyway.

Reef Crystals, a Walmart Vendor will deliver it to your door in the Bucket size or 200 gallon size, free of a shipping charge. Cheapest I can find. When mixing, add no more than 2/3, add the other 1/3 after the initial has dissolve.

Parameters for Red Sea blue bucket close to my tanks alk. Makes sense to add something close especially if it’s a considerable water change. Adjust the other parameters w dosing.

ESV.

While it's true that you can be successful with any major salt, some of us value things more than "what's the cheapest?"

This is bound to go into a ‘my salt is best’ thread, but my cheapo IO has been mixing pretty clean and does the job for me, and it’s mega cheap. I get a slight brown tint if I leave the mixed salt in a bucket for several days without the mixing pump running, but nothing that concerns me.

Mag seems a little high (1500?) but other than that it seems to work. That said, I’m a relative newbie so take that feedback with that in mind.

Recent experience suggests that high cost doesn’t necessarily always guarantee high quality. If there’s an equal chance that a problem could occur with any salt, then why not go for a cheaper option?

Maybe there is a higher risk of a bad batch of IO than others, and people who have been around longer than me would know if that’s true or not.

I use blue bucket and just made a post about it being "dirty" but I use it and love it!

Your parameters are in line with Fritz salt.

Instant Ocean plus two part might be safest approach. That salt been around since I first setup a salt tank. Not fancy. Just reliable. Reef Crystals might be overly high on alk which dependent on consumption may not be a bad thing.
