My blotchy is looking like she has pop eye. First pic is from yesterday, and second today. I started Kanaplex with focus yesterday and did Epsom salt. Also did a small water change today and will retest parameters in the morning. Mg, KH, PH were off and I have been dealing with high phosphates . She took three feedings today with medicated food. Am I on the right track? Someone else suggested flukes but I have had her since February, and she was medicated and QT’d prior to getting to me. The other two fish I added after her are Biota captive-bred. What do we think?1

This looks to be an eye injury and I suggest ASAP treating in a separate tank using Maracyn as pictured below

I don’t have a QT tank set up. How difficult is it to set up one in a pinch ?
A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand store or a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Is just one eye affected? If so, it is likely an injury. It might be infected, but a simple injury with mucus can look like an infection. These eye injuries can take a long time to heal, and in some cases, never fully heal.

Let me know if both eyes are affected, that can have different causes.

Avoid kanaplex in food! If you don’t dose it correctly, it will cause organ damage. The proper dose is 50 mg per kg of fish mass.
Also, skip the Epsom salts - seawater already contains a lot of that salt. It is a freshwater tonic only.

If you found that incorrect advice on a single web site, I’d avoid using that as it is giving you bad info.

Thanks. I have one on standby. Her eye is nearly clear today. I am going to wait and see how she looks tomorrow.

My flame got attacked or hit something with TS eye. I weigh my fish, and dose by weight. I did Kanaplex in the tank three doses. Waited and it was getting worse.

Fed it kana two times and a couple days later it started healing up. And once’s the healing started only up from there.

Not many know how to get fish weight, or how to properly dose. But it works wonders. There is medicated food from fish hotel. But I don’t know how it’s done. But sure is an interesting thing to possibly look at.

Here it is, I thought I took some damaged eye pics. But I don’t see any. The eye was the side in this actual pic. I was on the verge of calling its eye a loss. But did my best to save it. Paid off big time. This is him/her in 150g system with a coral beauty, golden angel, a Darwin Ocellaris, and a black cap basslet. Talk about peaceful harmony haha.

I set up a way to estimate the weight for smaller fish, but it isn't easy:

It's only in one eye and there is significant improvement. The cloudiness is gone but there is still a white spot. I am solely feeding Kanaplex and have done 4 days so far. Should I skip a day?

I did with mine.

How many days did you skip? Cloudiness completely gone now the eye is still slightly swollen. Thank you for responding, btw. I am so glad I listened to my gut not to do a FW dip.

I did two days.

How did you figure out the dosage? I am doing 1 pt kanaplex to 1 pt focus in food.

I actually weight my fish and use @Jay Hemdal ’s dose recommendation by fish weight.

Yea I’m a nerd haha. Have scales that weighs down to .001 gr I don’t have to rely on the .001 but it’s capable if need be.

When you weigh your fish, do you weigh them dry in a "pan" or do you weigh them in water and then subtract the weight of the water?

I have a small stainless cup that I tare on the scale. Then add the fish to that. Takes seconds.

I have to say weighing with water can be tricky. Have not tried that. But now I might haha.

Ok. I moved her to a hospital tank and am dosing erythromycin. Yesterday her eye was completely cloudy and this is today after the 2nd dose. I am wondering if those 3 dots can be flukes. Would you do a freshwater dip now or wait until full dose of erythromyacin to see progress?
