Hi,

I hope you can help me.

I have some anemones that have shrunk and have been in that state very long time (see pictures).
I really don't have any clues what is the cause of the problem.
The rest of the corals and fishes are fine.

Some data about my aquarium:
Aquarium: 567l
Sump: 140l
KH: 8,05 DKH
Ca: 485ppm
Mg: 1470 ppm
Salinity: 1,027
Temp: 25,2c (average)
PH: 8,06 (average)
PO4: 0,2 ppm
Nitrat: 2 ppm
Light: LED Maxspec Razor 320W (90%)
Streamer: Maxspec gyre
I use filter sock.
Skimmer: Deltec 1000i
I use tap water. I live in north of Sweden and the quality of the tap water here is very good.
The aquarium is about 3 years old.

Could be the light?
Could be starvation?
Could be parasites?

Regards.

Do you feed them?

What exactly is TDS of your tap water?

I feed them rarely.

TDS = 24 ppm

Well, while that number is not extremely high compared to most of us, it's still a good bit higher than most of us will put in our tanks, and more importantly I'm curious what exactly is in that water that is being read by your TDS meter.

That alone could be your issue.

Also, what exactly are you feeding and how much, how often?

I feed my nems a mix of scallops and shrimp I chop them fine and freeze. I shy away from silversides due to bones that’s just my preference.

long shot, but check for stray electric. I had a short in a pump that caused my nem to melt triggering a crash. The other corals were fine until the nems melted.

I consider it a blessing I no longer have nems. Man can they do a lot of damage when they decide to go for a walk.

What it is sure is that there is something in the aquarium that the anemones don't like.
If there was something bad in the water the rest of the corals should be affected too, specially SPS.

I feed my fish one or two times a day with pellets, flakes and also Mysis.
I use also Reef Roids to feed my corals.

Ok, just making sure not overfeeding or feeding too large, as that can be an issue, but you sound fine.

Yeah, we don't know exactly what the contaminants are exactly from tds reading.

Most of us change filters if anything more than a 0 reading and definitely before 003, so you are adding more than most of us right there alone, and normally I'd expect film algae issues or HA, but your tank looks pretty good.

It also looks like you are using crushed coral substrate maybe?
That can elevate your nitrates usually, though it would need to be fairly high to be an issue.

If you had the ability to do WC's w/ DI water I'd be curious to see how tank and nems would respond.

Well, I do water change 10% regularly every month.
The salt I am using is "Blue Treasure salt"

But not w/ 0 TDS DI water, I'd be curious what would happen after a few weeks of that.

Yes, it should at least eliminate the fact that there is something in the water that affects the anemones.
I will try that. It will take a couples of months to see the result.

Hi, again.

IMG_9316.JPG

IMG_9317.JPG

Theses pictures represent the aquarium of a friend of mine, the aquarium is neglected since last summer.
For instance the anemones that I have in my aquarium come from him.

I tested the water parameters and the result is:
PO4: 0,5 ppm
NO3: over 100 ppm
Ca: over 500 ppm
MG: over 1500 ppm
KH: 11,65 dKH

Amazing that the anemones are doing well in his aquarium but not in mine...
I don't understand that the anemones are still alive.

What are you using to test?
