Just got back from vacation this weekend and it was a well needed break! We went to Steamboat Springs, CO and fell in love with it. Potentially considering moving to Colorado Springs in the near future so if you follow along long enough you may see me stress about moving a tank 15 hours away... but we'll see how that develops.

The tank did great over the break with no hiccups! Alk dropped .4 but not a big deal. Don't let people like foh try to convince you a small alk swing with more than a .5 degree temperature swing will kill corals... what a joke.

I took the magnet scrapper out of the tank this time and came back to the mess below. Progress shots are between 30-45 days apart!

Also, I installed the hydros wave engine. More on that in the future.

Oh I see... heck my vacation right? ;Punch

Anyways.... finally mounted my uv and started a diy project for a co2 scrubber! I'll post the finished product once I get the media!

The paint on the bottom of the stand was peeling so gave that a scraping and will repaint later.

Lastly, a quick shot of the old reef octopus octo pulse 4 controllers and wires that have been eliminated due to using the hydros! Love it!

On another note I'm approaching 1000 subs on YouTube and would appreciate your help getting there! If you sub, send me a pm and I will send you an Angry Owl Aquariums sticker!

Final few parts of the CO2 scrubber are coming this week! The media should be here Thursday. I'll post once its all finished how I have it configured.

I also went ahead and ordered some Brightwell Alk 8.3 because my Alk is currently at 7.6 and stable but I want to run at 8.5-9. I've been slowly decreasing the calcium reactor ph to raise the concentration but this is a pretty slow effect - also given the fact I'm about to buffer ph I would expect a sudden rise in Alk consumption so this buffer will help me keep and get things where I want. From there we just wait and watch things grow!

Thank you! Awesome to have the owner in the thread here (future tank of the month, stay tuned) :p

Or there is more control and have an evil eye on your tank.
Anyway, great to see the tank is still going strong.
I love those coral growth shots.

@AngryOwl , angry, I've seen some of your YouTube videos and like them. I like your water change station and the sediment filter you use for filtering your saltwater mixing. Which pages are this on here?

I tried looking back and I'm unsure where it could be... Anything I can help out with? If you have any direct questions let me know and I can answer and post up pictures!

@AngryOwl just curious how you did it I'm doing something similar with my small water change station. I'm planning on a 5" RO style canister and taking a standard sediment filter and cutting it in half to fit. This will filter out all the crud from my artificial sea water like clay and other things. Do you have a video of this?

I never made a video of adding the filter but I like your compact idea. I also run carbon behind it. You could either drill holes like I did or run it through the top... or run it off whatever pump you use for the station with a T fitting. Kind of like a manifold setup. Not sure if this helps or not.

@AngryOwl I think there was a BRS video of a similar setup. Are you filtering much out of your freshly mixed salt water?

Yea I use red sea blue bucket salt and if I put in a new filter and mix salt you can see an orange tint after mixing. It helps keep the container clean too. I use carbon because its in the garage and I tend to leave it mixing for very long periods of time.

@AngryOwl I’ve read salts can have clay in them. That can cloud DT water.

Lemme get them cheesy balls!
They're all yours! - I'm actually reconsidering the design with a new container. So far the very top layer of my media is already turning purple so I'm unsure if the air is humid enough? Trial and error for sure!

Sounds possible - also they have other undesirable things mixed in that come off the manufacturing line. Plenty of people have not filtered their newly mixed saltwater for year and are okay but after you filter it and see the orange tint and how disgusting it is... you wont mix any other way lol

@AngryOwl never thought of using GAC to filter freshly mixed salt water. Do you know what this removes from the water?

I have no idea... personally I have reservations about how much and if carbon removes trace elements... but also for me it doesn't matter if it does become I dose trace elements and perform icp tests monthly. It would make for an interesting test though ;Pompus

@AngryOwl is that a sticker with a frogfish on it? What is the certification about?
