This is just a rant as I don't think my situation can be helped and hopefully someone can learn from my mistake.
5 weeks ago I bought a hippo, a pipefish and 5 chromis from a wild collector. I had a running qt setup. The hippo died the second week but the chromis looked good, actively eating and not hiding. I decided at week 3 that they had had enough qt and moved them to the display. I'm convinced that my qt was wrong, maybe I should have only qt'd one fish at a time. I should have waited. The point is that I AM STUPID. Don't be stupid with your qt.
It started about two weeks ago. So far I've lost a pipe fish, blue tang, sailfin tang, engineer Goby, 3 chromis. I'm getting ready for work now and with the lights off its apparant the tank is cloudy.
I can't find and dead fish but I have a feeling it's not going to be a nice tank to look at when I get home this evening.
I did try a copper based treatment in qt and that only proved fatal in 12 hours. Velvet is a nasty bug and it seems that you don't get much warning. I saw my sailfin looking fine in the morning on Monday then dead by 4:00 that afternoon. This is the worst feeling.
I'm at a loss, thinking this is it for me.
