Any Thoughts On The Klir Filter?

i am trying to figure whats wrong with my fleece consumption
now its better but the motor turn on every 5 min !!!!!!
can you send a photo for your installation and water level at the beginning of the cycle.. within the sump and within the klir

I found a configuration error with mine today. I was updating my adapter bracket to use 2 sided tape in the sock area rather than the weather stripping to lower the bypass volume and when I put the Klir back in I payed close attention to the water level and found it wasn't rising. It seems that when I installed the Klir it pivoted on its hinge a bit and created an opening in the fleece that acted like a bypass. After using the controller to take up the slack the water level started increasing in the filter area and activated the motor on the Klir. The filter is now advancing.

I think that the current activation (5-10 minutes) and usage rate might be an inaccurate measure as I effectively had not filtered the water for two weeks. I will keep an eye on my usage and post back in a day or two once it stabilizes.

You are using too much fleece and mine never advances. My sump fits according to the dimensions from Klir, but the filter sock blockers wont fit on the other holes because they are too close to the Klir. I have tried multiple things to block water flowing through, but so much flows into the other filter sock spaces that the fleece never advances at all. Really hope I can get a refund! I am tired of messing with this thing. Washing filter socks is much easier than this.

Davenkim - believe me if it work right.. it will save a lot of time.. and i never saw my water clearer than with the klir.. but 6 days its a disaster.. i must figure out whats wrong to fulfill my investment..

Can you flip the covers upsidedown?
This is what I did (i had to tighten the plastic screw down real tight with a screwdriver).
If not a flat piece of acylic can be cut to cover the other hole.

If not find someone who can buy them for you and then ship to you.

You can also have a circle of acrylic cut that would fit right into the hole and sit flush. I would not give up on it yet

320gph and your going through your fleece roll in 6 days, that is definitely not operating correctly. Something is triggering the optical sensor. Do you actually see the water level rise up to the optical sensor and making the motor turn on? Also the motor should only advance about 1~2" of fleece and the level should drop, do you see this happening?
I have about 650 gph coming down my dual drain lines and I have a sand bed, consider my tank to not be the cleanest since I feed a lot and sometimes turkey baste the rock. My Klir was installed 13 days ago and I don't think more then 25% of the fleece roll has been used yet.

the operation circle is right.. water level rise to the level of the optical sensor every 5 min and the roll advance 1 inch each time.. mine is also with sandbed and the flow is 320 gph..... can you send a photo about your installation??

Okay but why is your level rising so quickly even after the fleece roll advances? Water should take a little while to start clogging the fleece before making your water level go back up and certainly not 5 minutes unless you have 1200 gph going through it. My 650 gph is double of your 320 gph, something has to be not right with the way your water is flooding the sock tray.
Just an idea on how it looks in the sock tray of the sump:

I think that my sump division is the problem.. the lower part of the klir is always wet.. its a reefer 170 like sump.. i will send photos when i get home..

I’m pushing 600gph and mine didn’t roll until 5 days later .

After the initial cleaning period the fleece seems to be advancing every 20-30 minutes now. After two days I find the usage to be reasonable give that we feed a bit on the heavy side. I did pick up a few spare rolls of fleece at the LFS this weekend to ensure that I have replacements when needed. I will try to provide a more accurate estimate of my usage as time progresses.

I have also modified how my adapter mounts to the sump. I initially used x-small M-D weather stripping and while this has worked well on the vertical pieces it did not seal well on the horizontal area around the filter sock openings. I have removed the weather stripping from that area and drained enough of my sump to dry that surface. Once dry I replace the weather stripping in the horizontal area with Gorilla 15lb mounting tape. I also put a strip of the mounting tape on the vertical space between the black filter sock holder and the adapter. That took care of the excess bypass and has worked very well.

Is your optical sensor installed with the bevel horizontal or vertical ?

I already have a high water mark on my klir , once the water reaches that point it activates the motor

Interesting since CoralVue's instructions in their video is non-existent for directional install for the optical sensor but my sensor is vertical vs your horizontal placement. It also triggers at about the same level as yours.

I had it vertical at 1st then went to the klir web site enlarged a picture and it was horizontal so I switched it
