Anyone have any updates or ideas on when the Coralvue Maven will be released?

I had a trident for about a year before it met its fate in the trash can. I had so many issues with it I found it easier and less time consuming to just use all my Hanna checkers.

I’m really hoping the Maven will be a better answer to the trident.

Following along. Can it just come out already like I’m too lazy to do tests. SMH

If they ever release it, I may switch to Hydros. My Apex (A3 new 5/24) is acting up. Already lost an A2 EL after three years prior.

Interesting...i've never gone the Apex route, but have been tempted to now that i'm pretty much fully stocked.

Its a huge investment (think 5k+ here in Aus for A3 and Trident) for something that has reports of unreliability after a year.

Yeah, I don’t think any of them are perfect tbh, electronics always have quirks. But I like the idea that every Hydros module has a controller in it. The Apex has no redundancy.

I too have been having some serious issues with my apex as of late. I always wanted one so I got it but after seeing what hydros has to offer it makes you question if that is a better pick. I do really like the apex when it’s working as intended. However like you said the built in redundancy is huge!

Hydros does use a weird metal connector that doesn’t seem to hold up well in humid environments. But I don’t think any electronics can. However I haven’t had those types of issues with the apex.

My biggest issue, is that just the base unit and salinity module here is close to $2000.
Thats an expensive PH and Salinity monitor....

Both of which I rarely test for at the moment! I get that you can do a lot more with them from that, but I would then need to spend more money.

I understand that your pretty much buying a computer, just seems a bit rich if the lifespan is only 2-3 years...

Yea the price tags on these things are getting out of hand for what they offer at a basic level. I will say it’s nice to have multiple low and high level alerts, leak detectors and being able to set up autonomous actions. Like my fresh ro res filling up under the stand for the ato. I’d say that’s one of the biggest “perks” I haven’t ever lifted a jug to fill it.

But on the flip side, all of the probes go out between 6-12 months and at $200 a probe it’s not worth it. All my probes have drifted and even with calibrating they are not accurate. At least I know the drift so I can still get an idea that the numbers are still in check. But by no means is it accurate and truly reliable.

Pro tip: don’t buy 1st gen. You’re just beta testers for these companies on your own dime
That is a very valid point! That’s how I felt about the NP that’s sitting back in its box lol

The Maven was announced on April 12th, 2024. At trade shows they said the hope was for a 4th quarter 2024 release. Note that this was a hope and not any sort of official release timeline, but the system was said to be in Beta testing. David said he was actively using it.

Over that summer I asked a question of a vendor about pre-ordering the Maven and he said it was at least a year away. When I passed this along to the Coralvue user page on Facebook they all laughed at me. Even the owner of the online vendor that gave me the information attacked me.

We heard nothing until November, when they said they weren't ready and wanted to make sure the system was working flawlessly before releasing it. Everyone applauded the Hydros team for being thorough.

In early 2025 there was a video that related many of the problems they were running into.
Then after Trump took office, CoralVue used the tariffs as an excuse for the delay. They implied that they were ready to build before the tariffs prevented circuit boards (or something) from being received from China. Many people, even diehard Hydros lovers, pushed back at this as a flimsy excuse.

As far as I know, there has been no update on the Maven since early in 2025.

And now for my speculation:

I suspect that CoralVue never did have a working Maven. If we look at the timing of the original announcement, Apex was coming out with the Trident NP. This meant CoralVue's chief competitor would have a full testing system while Hydros had none. The announcement, along with the hope of a Q4 release, appeared to be simply a way to say, "we're working on a tester too, and if you wait a while it'll be out."

Many people did wait a while. Some people have reported that they purchased a full suite of Hydros gear in anticipation of also including the Maven later in the year, only to be disappointed with the delay.

We're coming up on nineteen months since the Maven was announced. The issues that Hydros has related to the public are pre-Alpha, prototyping issues. The claim that the Maven was in Beta back in April of 2024 was either a lie or David doesn't know the difference between Alpha and Beta testing. Or the Beta release of the Maven was so bad that they had to end it.

The lack of communication coupled with the deceit makes me question that the first version will be capable of doing what they claim. Or if it will ever be released at all. There has never been a video showing the Maven doing anything other than sit there with tubes coming out of it. Not even in a controlled environment. Does the Maven even exist outside of being a box that lights up?

For my part, I purchased an Apex system and am slowly converting my gear over to it. I'll still keep the Hydros to control my lights and wavemakers.

Very good write up and helps a lot to understand what’s going on! Thank you for taking the time to share all this information. Sucks as I wish the maven is an answer to the trident. I had a bunch of issues with mine and it ended up in the trash. Super lame that they can’t figure this out.

Anyone considered the Focustronic Mastertronic Essential since Maven is taking so long? I don't know much about it other than it is an automated tester and Parkers Reef seems to like it.

I must be the odd one out, because I’m genuinely relieved they’re taking their time with the Maven.

Everyone’s so conditioned for instant gratification that any delay sends them into a full meltdown.

To me, the restraint is a good sign. Most companies would have already pushed out a rushed, unstable product, turned their customers into unpaid beta testers, watched the whole thing implode, and then acted shocked when they had to scramble together a “version 2” to fix the avoidable mess they created.

While I tend to agree, anouncing the release was deceitful IMO and a ploy to pull people into the hydros system in anticipation of the maven. I have no skin in the game because I don't run any controller but shady is shady.

I just don’t agree with how it’s being framed. Hydros doesn’t have a history of doing this. They launched a beta,
incorporated major revisions, and only then moved to V1.

If this was a pattern or they routinely pushed out half-done products, I’d get the criticism. But this is the outlier, not the standard.
