So I've been using Reef Crystals ever since I got in to the hobby a few years ago and until recently I've been happy; but lately it's been leaving a brown-chalky residue inside of my mixing container. I've heard good things about Tropic Marin Pro Salt and I just wanted to get some more opinions on it. I know it's pricey, but I strongly believe that clean water and clean salt are a MUST so I don't mind spending the extra cash. What are your thoughts?

use the regular tropic, not the pro reef. imo. better parameters.

tropic will tell you the pro reef is "designed to be used w/ a calcium reactor".

rubbish!

i use tropic pro. i'll be honest and tell you i dont even know why. All i know is that when it came out i got a free bucket. loved the results and have never tried anything else. every time i think about changing to something cheaper i always talk myself out of it. if it aint broke dont fix it i always say.
i admit it SUCKS big time to buy AND USE and entire bucket for a single water change.

I like my regular Tropic Marin salt and never had any issues with that variety ...

I have found that it usually is my RO/DI filters that needs changing. Sometimes it exhaust faster than other times. Just a thought. I use to use TM and now use RC for the past 3-4 yrs.

I started getting the brown residue as well with Reef Crystals. So I changed my RO membrane and went with Tropic Marin. So I'm not sure if it was the salt or the membrane. However, I like Tropic Marin better than Reef Crystals!

I use tropic marin pro, I switched from Marine environment and i am VERY pleased with the results. My SPS have never looked better.

coralife for life here ahahahahahahah lol..... never had a problem and its the cheapest on the market.... thought about using brightwells but never made the switch.... "prolly because i haven't changed water in 7 months lol...

all i use is brightwell and couldn't be happier with the product, mixes perfectly every time and the salinity comes out on point. i'll never change from it.

I used to use RC and I had one bucket that the mag was way high, my tank got up to 1900ppm without any dosing what so ever. I changed to Salifert reef salt and love the results from it.

Hmmmmmmmm

I used to use Tropic Marin Pro but I get RC fro $40 a bucket

Now I'm wondering if I'm getting such a deal...

I also switched from RC to Tropic Marin Pro and am happy with the results. I need a new bucket and will once again pay a bit extra for a salt that I know gives my tank good results. One thing to mention is the alk is generally low, I maintain my alk at or around 8dkh, so it works for me but if you keep a higher alkalinity in your reef than you may have to dose it up before changing.
