I think so! How could they not be? Those sound waves have to go right through the tank. In fact, it should be easier for the wave to propogate through water than air.

Side note: I played drums as a kid, through 1 year of college as a music major. I got an electronic set almost a year ago now, and still haven't set it up yet lol! Too many other house and fish projects, and my guitars keep me busy there days :)

I had a cleaner wrasse jump from my tank due to being afraid of noise. I was holding one of my dogs looking at the tank when she barked at something she heard and he went flying out of the tank!

So! my drums are in my basement, right across from them is my soon to be nem tank
I play metal(slipknot, soad, Metallica, etc) so I bang hard and fast!!
are fish/pistol shrimps sensitive to this amount of noise

I made this mistake. Drums in the same with the fish tank is a bad idea. It is more than volume; it isn't just hearing the drums but they FEEL the drums when all of those vibrations penetrate the tank. This is a huge stress inducer.

what if they like the music?
no but seriously, is there anything I can do?
I have noise dampeners around me when I play
Yes there have been studies of them reacting to and liking music. I can play music for Hewbie and I swear he dances to it lol.

Depends... Life tends to acclimate but some don't. Best perhaps observe their reaction.

Is definitely not a good idea. Fish have a sensory organ that runs down the length of both sides of their body called the lateral line. They use it to find prey avoid predators and Orient themselves in the water around structure Based on my new changes in the flow of water over their body caused by vibrations. And if my memory serves me correct back 40 plus years ago to my high school days low frequency noises travel through water actually better than they Travel through air.
