I got 2 new clownfish on Monday and they have been preferctly fine until this morning when i found the black one lying down on the sand. I walked over to check on them and they got up and started swimming about. As the day has went on everytime i look over at the tank they are back there lying down and now the orange one is as well.
I keep my tank at 25 degrees but we are having a heat wave and unfortunately it was up to 30 degrees when i woke up, i have tried to cool it down by removing the lid and replacing it with mesh, a fan, turning up their wave machine and doing a water change which has brought it down to 28 degrees. Ammonia is 0 nitrites is 0 and nitrates are at 20.
Im unsure of it was the temp change or something else, i know they are funny fish but i am a worrier and dont feel this is normal for these 2 as they havent lay down before.
Its a 105l tank and they are the only 2 fish in it. I lost all my previous fish last year and these are the first fish i have added since.
There colour is good and i havent notcied any other changes to their bodies. They do still get up when i walk over but are lying down much quicker now. 20260626_010700.jpg 20260626_010650.jpg

How are you testing water? And disregard nitrites which are freshwater specific.
Can you provide a video with brighter white light, No Blues?

I use the salifert testing kits. I had kept the light off when i saw then lying down to try and reduce any stress and be on the safe side but since turning it on they are swimming about again. Have i been worrying over nothing?😅

Video does not play. You tube version best.

Video slightly blurry but you can add NT Labs Acriflavine or Ruby Rally pro which addresses many clownfish issues
Ok thank you so much, the nt labs says its for koi, is that the right one?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Before adding any medications, we should dig a bit deeper here;

Are the fish still eating well?
Are they breathing more rapidly than before?
Does the tank have aeration (not just circulation)?

I don't see any evidence of external disease in the videos - the fish have clear skin and are swimming with fins held erect. Sometimes, in the absence of an anemone, clownfish will sort of nestle in a depression in the sand.

I havent seen them eat the past few nights, definitely breathing very quick today. The tank has an internal filter and a wave machine at the surface of the tank. They are noticeably worse today.

That appears to be Amyloodinium/velvet, a gill protozoan disease. That's the only disease that can turn so badly so quickly.

It is difficult to treat - you could try a 100 ppm hydrogen peroxide dip to buy some time, but then you'll need to start a coppersafe treatment.

To do the dip, add 12.5 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide in one gallon of tank water, or 3.3 ml in one liter. Add the fish for 30 minutes. Note; this fish is pretty far gone, so it may not survive the dip......

Thank you so much for your help. I think they have already passed, feel horrible i wasnt able to help them. My other fish seems fine but is there anything i can do as a preventative?

Sorry - in reading your post, I thought the clownfish were the only fish in the tank. What other fish are in there? Can you post a video of them so that I can look for symptoms?

Other than treating the other fish in advance of any symptom development, there isn't a preventative per-se.

One thing that might rule out velvet is the other fish remaining disease-free. True velvet typically infects all fish in a tank pretty quickly.....

Thank you so much for your help. It was just the 2 clown fish in the tank. I am worried that the other clown fish wont make it, and unfortunately living in ireland it can be hard to get most medications, and those we can get take a while to be delivered. Just keeping my fingers crossed for the little guy, they are still really young and i would feel horrible if they passed.

They could have thought it was night since you did that, I notice that sometimes mine sleep on the bottom
