Good morning everybody

I am bored today, so here is a silly question.

At what salinity does your tank look at its best? Does it make little difference? Do sps lps fish et al prefer a different salinity?

Sorry for a maybe pointless question.

P S You are not allowed to mention ‘stability’.

I’ve seen similar questions, I know there is a range that works. with the Red Sea being saltier than the Indian Ocean et …
My stuff looks a lil funky under 32ppt but is it the salt or because everything else is also lower ?
I just keep my tanks at 35ppt

I never did any testing to see which salinity worked best, but I'll just point out some ambiguity of such a question. Salinity changes will impact all ions of seawater, including those that we often try to independently control (calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, etc.).

Thus, one person changing salinity and looking for effects might just allow alteration of these things they way it would happen in nature, and others changing salinity might still keep these things constant.

Thank you Randy. As you say some may let salinity drop whilst rising other elements.

i've always used 1.025 for my tank. Never thought to go lower / higher, other than for the amount of salt that I could use / save. Since i have never adjusted to FAFO, I don't have any input on other levels.
Nice I keep mine the same 1.025
