Hi Everyone!
I just got back into the hobby after +20 years (was using undergravel filter with bubblers or power heads). Got my make up water from the Gulf of Mexico and use distilled water for evaporation recovery back then. Anyway I read an article on reef tanks about how popular they became. Before long I researched reef keeping and was happy to see how it incorporated with technology. So a few weeks ago I purchased the Reefer 350 G2 (that was all the room I was allow to have) with the Neptune Apex control/monitor system plus lights, skimmers, etc... (package deal). The tank is in it 3rd week of cycling (fishless). So I have a few questions to ask the group. 1. Other than the return pump for the sump and heater, is there any other equipment as a critical spare that I should keep on hand? 2. Now I have a titanium heater (now this I felt uneasy putting metal in an aquarium) and I read about about them prior to purchasing the tank/equipment, so has anyone had a metal issue with one? I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions along this journey? I appreciate any and all help.

Cheers,

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!

I would say you nailed the two most important backup items. Flow and heat with flow being the most important for oxygenation of the water. Fish and corals can survive a while with lower temperatures but still a good idea to have a backup heater.

I have never heard of anyone having issues with a titanium heater and they have been widely used for a while now. A lot of people are using icp tests that would show metal leaching into the aquarium as well.

Hello and welcome to r2r,and welcome back to the hobby.
I myself keep spare powerhead, heater, return pump, spare rodi filters and resin and use carbon in a bag so make sure enough to change bag at least once.
Other than these don't think keep " spare off anything else.
Aw actually spare thermoter, just the little glass ones

Welcome and Welcome Back! Glad you joined.

I always feel spare pumps should be on hand. I can always put hot or cold water into recycling container if my heaters or chiller goes bad, but no substitute for water flow and without flow could crash my tank's corals.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)
