What is the best way to black out the back of an aquarium. I was thing about an electrostatic type window film. I was thinking the back and the overflow sides.

Krylon fusion paint is the best, but its hard to find, I haven't seen it in a few years. I've used rustoleum (from home depot) on a few tanks the past few years, and its seems to work just as well.

Vinyl if you can get it on without bubbles. I know from trying window tint that I can't do it so I use paint. Black spray paint works fine. If I think I may want to remove it I use latex paint and a roller. It damages easy but also scrapes off easier than spray paint. I've read of some people using plasti dip

I've painted aquariums for decades, spray paint works as does something like Rustolium just rolled on with a small roller.

However, I recently tried vinyl wrapping a tank, and I don't think I'll ever paint one again. The vinyl is so much better, it's cheap, easy to apply, no drying, no dripping, no clean up. Here's a good video on how to do it:
