I spent some time today laying out one of the controller panels. The first attachment is a Sketchup drawing showing where to layout the holes. The second is a pic taken during the actual layout.

Made some more progress on the control panels tonight. Used the drill press to drill all the holes and then used the router table and a 1/2" spiral bit to route the slots that will allow power and connectivity. I used a 1/16 round over bit to ease the edges of all holes, slots and panel edges to alleviate the chance of snagging a chord or tubing.

Made some progress over the last week or so on prep for the tank. First, when we designed the layout and ordered the tank, I was assuming I was going to use filter socks. After a lot of research I decided to go with MRC's filter fleece unit. Because the filter fleece unit adds to the height of the overall sump, I needed to build a riser to account for the difference in height needed at the tank.

So, I ordered a bunch of 8020 3" extruded aluminum, lots of nuts and bolts, and the necessary bracing. I built a 13" riser on which the base and tank will reside. Here it is on my basement floor (top down). There are 504 bolts/nuts and 63 corner braces on that mutha.

Have you ever built something and thought to yourself, "maybe I overbuilt that?"

Yeah, me neither.

I started work last night on mounting the power blocks. These are the power blocks for the Ecotech Vortech and Vectra units mounted on the wall behind the controllers for each of the units and then a pic of the slide-in board (covers up the wall behind it)

Look what arrived today!

There are six of these that will hang over the tank and six Kessil lights as well for more shimmer (I am a shimm-o-holic).

Also put sand in and started the aquascapeing today. I couldn't believe the tank swallowed five boxes of real reef and I still need more. Began putting water in the tank as well... 320gal so far. "Making" more water now.

Here is an obligatory pic of most of the hardware (still awaiting a couple more MP60s) with the tank while being filled up.

Zack from Capital Aquariums spent the entire day here at home today. We worked on EVERYTHING!

First up, we installed the final row of lights. I have all the lights temporarily on Ecotech mounts while I build the canopy. Check out the zip-ties holding up the Kessils... so custom/luxurious.

And two more pics of the tank with the current rock layout.

We spent most of our time today running cables behind the wall for vectra pumps, VorTech power heads, heaters, flow monitors, etc., etc., etc.

While we were running cables Zack had one of his guys programming the Apex. IT... IS... ALIVE!!!

Only one return pump, two power heads, heaters, lights, fleece roller and FMMs connected so far, but we have a tank that is breathing!! This is a major milestone which I shall celebrate with wine.
