I am going bare bottom on my new Redsea Reefer 650 peninsula and I have looked at r2r and did not see what Information I was looking for.

I am going to set up a poll for either placing my rock on the glass or on something like starboard. I can get starboard cut to size locally but just curious on who does use starboard or who does not use starboard.

What is the pro’s and cons, my rock structure will be glued with super glue.

Please post pictures.

I like starboard because you can get it in black and it looks good while waiting for corals etc to cover the bottom

I went with black starboard on my 525xl. Looks great. Only 3 weeks in through. I didn’t glue it down.

Make sure you leave a gap around it..... Not sure how much, but I’m told it can expand over time.

I have white starboard in my 750. Don’t glue the edges and use your finger to flatten it out the glue won’t spread evenly between the tank and board.

I would put a think layer on the bottom around the edges and push down.

I have starboard pretty much for the only reason that corals and rocks glue to it a lot better than glass. Otherwise snails and urchins are always moving around items you want on the bottom.

Reading another thread points out something too..... A rock falls off your scape, starboard can prevent it from cracking the bottom panel of glass
